T-H Marine ATLAS 8" Setback Hydraulic Jack Plate - Polished

The T-H Marine ATLAS Hydraulic Jack Plate is the workhorse hydraulic jack plate of the bass boat / center console market - the AHJ-8V-DP variant being the polished aluminum 8-inch setback configuration rated for outboards up to 300 horsepower. T-H Marine (with subsidiary CMC) developed the ATLAS as the company's flagship hydraulic jack plate offering, and it has become the dominant US recreational hydraulic jack plate by every meaningful measure: it's the most factory-installed plate, the most popular among professional anglers, and the #1-selling hydraulic jack plate in the world.

What's a hydraulic jack plate. A jack plate sits between the boat transom and the outboard motor, and lets you adjust the outboard's vertical position underway. Why this matters: outboard performance depends heavily on the prop depth - too low and you lose top speed to drag, too high and the prop ventilates / cavitates. Different conditions (load, water roughness, RPM, hole shot vs cruise) want different prop depths. A hydraulic jack plate lets you adjust prop depth from the helm with the press of a button, optimizing performance for current conditions instead of running the wrong setup all the time.

Up to 300 HP / 625 lb. The AHJ-8V-DP is rated for outboards up to 300 horsepower OR 625 pounds dry weight (whichever limit you hit first). 300 HP covers most current production outboards - V8 four-strokes from the major outboard manufacturers, the high-output V6 four-strokes, and the older V6 two-strokes. Above 300 HP (the newer 400+ HP V8s and inline-6 high-horsepower outboards), step up to T-H Marine's higher-rated jack plate variants. 8-inch setback. The 8-inch setback distance moves the outboard 8 inches aft of the transom face. Why setback matters: setback positions the prop in cleaner water aft of the hull's wake, which reduces prop ventilation, improves top speed, and improves bow lift on planing boats. 8 inches is the most common setback for bass-boat and center-console performance applications - enough setback to clear the prop from the immediate wake, not so much that it overhangs dangerously aft of the transom. 5-3/4 inch hydraulic rise. The hydraulic actuator gives you 5-3/4 inches of vertical motor travel - enough range to optimize prop depth for everything from hole shot (motor low for max thrust to climb on plane) to cruise (motor up for max top speed and best fuel economy). For typical bass-boat use, 5-3/4 inches of hydraulic adjustment range covers all the conditions you'll see in normal fishing.

Total rise 8-1/4 to 9-3/4 inches. Beyond the 5-3/4 inch hydraulic adjustment, the ATLAS includes a manual vertical adjustment range that gives a total motor mounting position range of 8-1/4 to 9-3/4 inches above the transom mount point. This combination lets you set the baseline motor height during install and then fine-tune dynamically with the hydraulics. The 7-inch vertical adjustment range listed in the spec table refers to the static mounting position adjustment during install.

Innovative Rod and Slot lifting system. The Rod and Slot design is T-H Marine's engineering approach to handling the high loads of modern outboards. Traditional jack plate designs use various pivot / rail systems that flex under load and eventually fatigue. The Rod and Slot system uses precision-machined hardened rods running in close-fit slots that handle the load without any deflection. Result: the motor sits where you put it, doesn't shift under hard acceleration or deceleration, and the system doesn't develop the gradual play that affects older designs over time.

One-piece design with integrated hydraulics. The hydraulic actuator is built INSIDE the jack plate body itself - no separate hydraulic pump, no reservoir, no remote hoses to route through the transom. For the install, this is a major simplification: mount the plate to the transom, run the electrical cable forward to the helm switch, plug in the rocker switch, done. No hydraulic plumbing, no fluid bleeding, no leak risk from external hoses. The integrated design also makes the system more reliable - fewer connection points means fewer leak failure modes.

Fast 8-second lift. The hydraulic actuator moves the motor from full-down to full-up in 8 seconds. Fast enough to make on-the-fly adjustments during a fishing day without waiting around. The previous-generation hydraulic actuators in jack plates were significantly slower (15-30 seconds bottom-to-top), which discouraged active use. The 8-second lift makes the jack plate something you actually adjust mid-fish or mid-run instead of setting once and ignoring.

Heavy-duty safety cable included. A safety cable runs from the jack plate to the transom, sized to catch the motor if the jack plate ever fails catastrophically (loose mounting bolts, internal failure, transom damage). For 600+ pound outboards, a falling motor would smash through the cockpit and create a serious safety hazard. The safety cable eliminates that risk - even if the plate fails, the motor stays attached to the boat. T-H Marine was the first jack plate manufacturer to include a safety cable as standard, and the practice has now become an industry expectation.

Pre-drilled for shallow water anchors. The plate is pre-drilled with the standard hole pattern for mounting Power Pole, Talon, or other shallow water anchor systems directly to the jack plate. For boats running both a hydraulic jack plate AND shallow water anchors, this is a meaningful install simplification - the anchor mounts directly to the plate without needing custom backing brackets.

No-grease design. Older hydraulic jack plates required regular grease lubrication of the lifting mechanism - typical maintenance interval was every 25-50 engine hours, which is a chore on heavy-use bass boats. The ATLAS is engineered for greaseless operation - the hardened rod / slot interface uses self-lubricating bushings that don't need periodic greasing. Net: install it, forget it, no maintenance schedule. The competition tried to copy this feature but couldn't replicate the design.

US-made hydraulic actuator. The ATLAS hydraulic actuator is manufactured in the USA, vs imported hydraulic components used in competing jack plates. For owners who care about US manufacturing OR want the quality control that US-domestic manufacturing typically provides, this is meaningful. The actuator is the highest-load component in the plate and the one most likely to need warranty service - having it US-made means service parts and warranty work are more accessible than imported alternatives.

Field-replaceable actuator. If the actuator ever does fail (rare but possible after extended use), it can be replaced in the field without removing the entire jack plate from the boat. Critical for owners who can't afford the boat being out of service for a week to ship the whole assembly back to the manufacturer. The field-replacement design is part of why the ATLAS dominates the professional angling market - tournament anglers can't afford downtime.

Polished aluminum finish. The AHJ-8V-DP is the polished-aluminum finish variant - the show-quality finish that matches well with chrome and polished aluminum trim packages on premium bass boats and offshore center consoles. T-H Marine offers the same plate in black anodized finish (AHJ-8V) for owners who prefer the dark finish. Polished aluminum requires occasional buffing to maintain the polished look, but the underlying aluminum is corrosion-resistant either way.

Includes rocker switch and relay harness. The kit ships with the standard helm rocker switch (up / down toggle) and the relay harness that powers the hydraulic actuator from the boat's 12V system. Plug the rocker switch into the harness, mount the switch at the helm, route the harness back to the jack plate. Total electrical install is straightforward - no specialized parts needed beyond what's in the box.

Limited lifetime warranty. T-H Marine backs the ATLAS with a limited lifetime warranty - the longest warranty term in the hydraulic jack plate market. Service runs through the T-H Marine warranty network. Save the receipt and contact T-H Marine for any warranty claims. The lifetime warranty is one of the reasons professional anglers and serious recreational owners specify ATLAS over cheaper alternatives - the upfront cost premium is offset by the long-term coverage.
