TACO Grand Slam 390 Outrigger Mount for 1-1/2" Outrigger (Pair)

The TACO Grand Slam 390 is the offshore outrigger mount that tournament boats, charter operators, and serious recreational sportfishermen actually run. It's the heavy-duty version of TACO's popular GS-380, with a thicker arm, a more substantial gusset, and the structural margin to handle the torque generated by longer poles and dredge pulling on bigger center consoles. If you're spec'ing outriggers on a boat in the 25 to 40 foot range, this is the mount most riggers will recommend.

The mount accepts 1-1/2 inch diameter outrigger poles, which is the standard for serious offshore center consoles, walkarounds, and convertibles. It pairs natively with TACO's Deluxe Aluminum and Carbon Fiber Tele-Outriggers (sold separately) and works with any compatible 1-1/2 inch pole from third-party manufacturers. The included pin-locking technology makes pole installs and removals quick and secure.

What makes the GS-390 the right pick over cheaper outrigger mounts is the under-T-top control geometry. The crank handle for vertical lift and the offset handle for horizontal rotation both operate from underneath the T-top, where you can reach them comfortably from the cockpit without climbing onto a gunwale or reaching over the hardtop. In a rolling sea with poles up and lines deployed, that operational ergonomic is the difference between safely repositioning your spread and a pole accident. The patented rotation control (US patent 7,114,283) features positive detents every 22.5 degrees, so the pole holds where you put it instead of drifting under the load of trolling lines and dredges.

Vertical lift travels up to 45 degrees from horizontal, which gives you plenty of range for storing the poles in the upright position when running, deploying them out at fishing angle, and intermediate positions for adjusting line angles. The crank handle folds flush to the base when stowed, so the unit doesn't snag rigging or guests passing through the cockpit.

Construction is the part that justifies the price. The cast main body is 316L stainless steel, which is the saltwater-grade alloy you want for any structural marine hardware. The arm and rotation components are machined aluminum, anodized for marine corrosion resistance and electrically insulated from the stainless body to prevent galvanic interaction at the joint. We've sold these to charter operations running daily out of the Florida Keys, the Outer Banks, and the Gulf, and they hold up year after year.

Top thickness compatibility is up to 2.5 inches, which covers the vast majority of fiberglass hardtops and aluminum T-tops on modern center consoles. The mount uses a TACO 4x6 inch bolt pattern (drill template included), and the install is a typical 2 to 4 hour job for a competent rigger working on the boat for the first time. On a TACO-equipped factory T-top with predrilled holes, the install is faster.

Operationally, the GS-390 is built for the loads that real outrigger fishing puts on the system. A 24-foot carbon fiber pole loaded with multiple long-line dredges can put 200+ pounds of dynamic load on the mount in a tight turn or sea condition. The reinforced gusset and thicker arm handle that without flexing, vibrating, or fatiguing over a season of hard offshore use. Lighter mount designs from other manufacturers often crack at the gusset weld after a few years of dredge work. The GS-390 doesn't.

Note on the 390 vs the 390XL. TACO offers a 390XL variant with even more reinforcement for the largest convertibles and serious tournament dredge operations. If you're running 30-foot poles or pulling multiple dredges, look at the XL. For typical 25 to 40 foot center console use with 24-foot Tele-Outriggers, the GS-390 is the right pick.

Note on the 390 vs the 390-180. The 390-180 is a variant with a fore-facing rotation handle for installs where T-top hand clearance underneath is restricted. This SKU ships as a pair (set of 2 mounts), which is what you actually need to install outriggers (one mount per side of the boat). Each mount comes with the install hardware, drill template, and operating instructions. Outrigger poles, line halyard hardware, and rigging accessories are sold separately.

Maintenance is essentially zero. Rinse with fresh water at the end of each salt trip. A drop of light marine lubricant on the rotation pivot once or twice a season keeps the action smooth. The 316L stainless components don't need polish to function, though some owners polish for the look. The anodized aluminum doesn't need anything beyond fresh-water rinses.
