Raymarine Quantum 2 Q24D Dopper Radar - No Cable Product Description

Navigate Busy Waters with Confidence Using Doppler Technology

Picture this: you're threading through a crowded harbor at dusk, fog rolling in, and smaller vessels darting unpredictably. Traditional radars might leave you guessing which blips are threats. That's where the advanced Doppler processing shines, instantly spotlighting moving objects and painting them in intuitive colors—red for those closing in, green for those heading away. This isn't just radar; it's a vigilant co-pilot that sharpens your situational awareness, letting you focus on steering clear of trouble.

For boaters who prioritize safety without complexity, this solid-state system delivers pinpoint short-range performance down to 18 feet, ideal for tight maneuvers in marinas or zero-visibility conditions. Its CHIRP pulse compression squeezes more detail from every scan, revealing targets that bulkier radars overlook.

How Doppler Radar Transforms On-Water Safety

Doppler isn't magic—it's physics at work. Radar pulses bounce off objects, and when those objects move, the returning waves shift frequency slightly, like the Doppler effect from a passing siren. Inbound threats compress those waves, triggering a red alert on your display. Outbound ones stretch them out to green. Stationary hazards? They stay neutral, but the clever Safety Sector overrides this forward of your bow, up to about 200 meters across a 15-degree sweep, flagging buoys, rocks, or sluggish boats in red too.

This dual-mode filtering cuts through clutter, from land echoes to nearby radars' interference. Rotate at a brisk 24 RPM with a narrow 4.9-degree horizontal beam, and you get crisp, real-time updates over 24 nautical miles—plenty for spotting weather cells, aids to navigation, or distant traffic early.

Effortless Target Tracking for Peace of Mind

Forget manually tweaking guard zones. Automatic MARPA (or ARPA with Doppler assist) locks onto up to 10 targets simultaneously, crunching their speed, course, and closest point of approach. Audible alarms and clear graphics ping you when risks emerge, mimicking pro-grade systems used by coast guards worldwide.

Layer on TrueTrails, and every moving contact trails a customizable "wake" showing its path history. Watch a ferry's predictable arc or a speedboat's erratic zig-zag, and plot your safest pass with data-driven certainty. It's like having motion replay on demand, turning raw echoes into actionable intel.

Built for Real Boating Life: Lightweight, Efficient, and Versatile

Weighing far less than old-school magnetron units—up to 50% lighter—this 21-inch dome slips onto existing Raymarine mounts with standard bolts, slashing install time. Low draw (just 17 watts peak, 7 in standby) suits battery-powered sails or extended anchoring, while IPX6 sealing laughs off pounding seas and 100-knot winds.

Power it from 12 or 24V systems (10.8-31.2V range), and connect via slim wires or built-in Wi-Fi to multifunction displays. Starts in seconds—no warm-up wait—emitting safe, low levels you can mount high or low without worry. Operate from -10°C to +55°C, store cooler, and it thrives in humid tropics.

  • CHIRP bandwidth up to 32 MHz for razor-sharp resolution
  • X-band solid-state transmitter at 9354-9446 MHz
  • 20-degree vertical beam slices through rain clutter
  • True Motion mode filters vessel-relative movers only

Perfect Match for Sailboats, RIBs, and Day Cruisers

Sailors love the power thrift for long passages; RIB adventurers crave short-range punch in chop; powerboaters in coastal hops get collision insurance. In congested channels or foul weather, it excels where eyes fail—spotting unlit skiffs, debris, or squalls. Upgrade seamlessly from legacy scanners, keeping your setup familiar yet future-proofed.

Ready to Mount Out of the Box

Your package arrives complete with the radome, M8 bolts (including springs and flats), and a documentation pack with templates. No cables included, so pair with your preferred length for a clean, custom run.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Doppler processing better for collision avoidance?

It color-codes moving targets—red for approaching, green for receding—based on frequency shifts in echoes, helping you instantly spot risks amid clutter without constant monitoring.

How close can this radar detect objects?

CHIRP pulse compression nails targets as near as 18 feet, perfect for docking, anchoring, or navigating fog-shrouded shallows where every foot counts.

Does it track multiple targets automatically?

Yes, it handles 10 simultaneous MARPA/ARPA tracks, auto-calculating speed, course, and CPA, with alarms for new entrants in custom zones—no manual setup needed.

Is installation straightforward for smaller boats?

Absolutely—lightweight design, standard bolt pattern, and Wi-Fi option mean quick DIY setup. Fits sailboat masts or RIB arches easily, with low power for off-grid use.

What about stationary hazards like rocks or buoys?

Safety Sector highlights them in red ahead of your bow (15° x 200m), treating them as inbound threats despite being static, bridging Doppler's focus on motion.

How does TrueTrails help in decision-making?

It draws adjustable "wakes" behind movers, revealing patterns—like steady headings or wild turns—letting you anticipate crosses and choose safe paths intuitively.

Can it handle rough conditions?

IPX6 waterproofing, 100-knot wind tolerance, and wide temp range (-10°C to +55°C operating) ensure reliability in storms, spray, or heat.

Keep inexperienced boaters and hidden dangers at bay even in the most congested waterways. Quantum ™ 2 with Doppler collision avoidance technology makes it easy to discern potentially dangerous targets when navigating in high-traffic areas. How Doppler Radar Works:

  • Microwave energy waves are bounced off of a distant target, just like conventional radar.
  • Moving targets send back echoes whose frequencies shift upward or downward from what was originally transmitted.
  • For inbound targets, the frequency increases as the leading edge of the returning echoes are received more frequently as the target’s range decreases.
  • For outbound targets, the frequency drops as the returning echoes spread out as its range increases.
  • Doppler radars are engineered to detect these small shifts in wave frequency, and use them to classify moving radar targets.

Doppler Target Processing

Doppler radar is tuned specifically to detect the radar echo frequency shift returned by moving vs. stationary targets.

Quantum 2 then uniquely color codes moving targets to indicate whether they are getting closer, or moving away.

  • Inbound targets are colored red
  • Outbound targets are colored green

Color coded targets make it simple to pick out moving traffic from other stationary targets like land, navigation aids or stopped/anchored vessels.

Quantum 2 Safety Sector

Doppler does an excellent job of bringing attention to moving targets, but it does downplay stationary targets, that can be equally as dangerous.

Safety Sector provides equal attention to these imminent threats by coloring them as inbound targets. Potential targets include:

  • Buoys
  • Exposed Hazard (rocks, pilings, etc...)
  • Slow moving, low visibility vessels
  • Quantum 2's Safety Sector spreads 15° from the bow to a distance of approximately 200m

NOTE: The safety sector is not visible on the display. Quantum 2 automatically processes and highlights targets within this region in red.

The Quantum 2 also features fully automatic target acquisition and tracking. Configure custom safety or alarm zones and be alerted to new radar contacts entering the zone. Quantum 2 can begin tracking those contacts automatically, calculating their course, speed, closest point of approach and more. You’ll be alerted to dangerous contacts with audible alerts and easy to understand on-screen graphics.

Quantum 2 also features Raymarine’s True Trails target history display. The True Trails features enables you to see a historical “wake” behind every moving contact. This additional information makes it even easier to interpret the motion of other vessels, and make smart maneuvering decisions to pass safely.

Like every Raymarine Quantum system, you’ll also benefit from a rugged and lightweight design that is super-easy to install. Quantum 2 has very low power consumption making it especially friendly to vessels running exclusively on battery power. Quantum 2 with Doppler can be installed in a traditional wired configuration, or use its built-in Wi-Fi technology to connect it to your Raymarine MFD.

The Quantum 2 with Doppler truly sets the standard for on the water safety and collision avoidance.
