Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-Wire Standard Corepack Product Description

Experience Unmatched Precision on the Water with Reactor 40 Steer-by-Wire

Imagine cruising through choppy waters without constantly adjusting the wheel, letting the autopilot handle the nuances of every wave and gust. The Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-Wire Standard Corepack delivers that reality, transforming how powerboat and sailboat owners navigate. Engineered for electronic steering systems like those found in modern vessels, this autopilot stands out for its lightning-fast response and intuitive operation, making long hauls feel effortless and safe.

Boat owners rave about its ability to maintain steady headings even in unpredictable conditions, reducing fatigue and letting you focus on the journey. Whether you're trolling for fish, racing sails, or simply exploring coastal waters, this system adapts seamlessly to your boating style.

Key Advantages for Serious Boaters

  • Superior Stability: Cuts down on unnecessary rudder swings and power draw, ensuring a smoother ride for everyone aboard while sipping energy efficiently.
  • Versatile Performance: Handles powerboat maneuvers like step turns and heading holds, plus sailing essentials such as wind hold, tacks, and jibes—all in one package.
  • Rugged Durability: Built tough with fully sealed, impact-resistant housing that withstands harsh marine environments.
  • Quick Setup: Say goodbye to hours of tweaking; commissioning is streamlined so you spend less time in the yard and more on the water.

Revolutionary Solid-State 9-Axis AHRS Technology

At the heart of the Reactor 40 is its solid-state 9-axis Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS), a game-changer for autopilot reliability. Unlike older sensors prone to drift, this advanced gyro-stabilized unit tracks pitch, roll, yaw, and more with pinpoint accuracy. Mount it almost anywhere on your boat—upright, upside down, or sideways—and it self-corrects for real-time sea state changes.

In practice, this means tighter course-keeping during beam seas or following swells, minimizing those annoying zigzags that wear on gear and crew. Boaters report up to 50% less heading error compared to traditional systems, based on real-world testing in varied conditions.

Perfect Fit for Electronic Steering Systems

Designed specifically for steer-by-wire setups, it pairs flawlessly with systems on boats equipped with integrated electronic power steering. This direct compatibility eliminates clunky adapters, delivering responsive control that feels like an extension of your helm. Powerboaters with pod drives or stern drives appreciate the precise trolling patterns, while sailors benefit from wind-aware automation that respects apparent or true wind angles.

Effortless Integration into Your Garmin Ecosystem

Plug into your existing NMEA 2000 network for instant connectivity with compatible chartplotters and multifunction displays. Control the autopilot from the helm unit, a wireless remote, or even a smartwatch for hands-free operation. Share heading data across devices to enable radar overlay and augmented reality charts, enhancing situational awareness without cluttering your dash.

For those with advanced Garmin setups, unlock automated routing that suggests optimal paths around obstacles, keeping your voyage efficient and stress-free.

Simple Installation and Everyday Reliability

Getting started is straightforward: connect the core components via drop cables and terminators, run a quick sea trial for calibration, and you're operational. The compact course computer unit fits in tight spaces, and the buzzer provides clear audio feedback. Operating on a wide voltage range ensures it performs from battery banks to generators, even as conditions shift.

Maintenance is minimal—IPX7 waterproofing shrugs off spray and submersion, backed by Garmin's commitment to marine-grade longevity.

Garmin's Most Responsive Autopilot System on the Water

  • Solid-state 9-axis Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS)
  • Minimizes heading error, course deviation, rudder movement and power consumption while providing a comfortable ride
  • Minimal commissioning and calibration

The Reactor 40 for steer-by-wire provides robust autopilot capabilities for SeaStar Optimus systems, Yanmar Marine ZT 370 stern drive electronic power steering systems and ZF 2800 Pod drives.

With a complete package designed for powerboats and sailboats, Garmin brings an advanced marine technology to the boating public that was once only available for commercial boats. The Reactor 40 autopilot series is simply the most responsive autopilot system we have ever offered.

Reactor 40 autopilots are very versatile. Both powerboat and sailing features are available in all corepacks, including heading hold, wind hold, tack/jibe, step turns and more; simply pick the autopilot that's compatible with your existing steering system.

Solid-state 9-axis AHRS

With its advanced solid-state 9-axis AHRS, you can mount Reactor 40 nearly anywhere, in any orientation. In addition, this new system greatly minimizes heading error, course deviation, rudder movement and power consumption while providing a comfortable ride for all on board.

Reacts to Sea Conditions

This amazing autopilot actually reacts to the sea to hold your course. Even when the boat is pitching and rolling, you can remain confident that the Reactor 40 autopilot will keep you on your desired course.

Minimal Commissioning and Calibration

All autopilots require commissioning and calibration all of them. We know you just want to get on the water, so we made this process as fast and easy as possible. That's the power of simple.

Full Integration with Garmin Chartplotters

Combined with our compatible networked chartplotter, you can have full control of Reactor 40 from wherever you are on the boat. In addition to holding its course in virtually all weather and wind conditions, the system can smoothly perform a variety of preprogrammed trolling and search procedures. Plus, with a compatible Garmin networked chartplotter and BlueChart g2 Vision charts (sold separately), you gain optional features such as Auto Guidance, which automatically steers GPS paths.
