No. This is the pedestal only. The 4-foot and 6-foot open-array antennas are sold as separate items because boats vary widely on the room they have to swing the array. You need both the pedestal and the antenna to make a working radar.

What's the max range?
72 nautical miles with the 6-foot array. That's the on-screen maximum, not the realistic detection range of a small target. Practical detection on a moored buoy is more like 3 to 5 nautical miles, on a ship it's 20 to 30 nautical miles, and on a coastline or weather front it can run out toward the spec maximum.
Will it work with my Garmin chartplotter?
Yes, if your chartplotter is on the Garmin Marine Network. Most current Garmin GPSMAP and echoMAP units with Ethernet support open-array radar. If you're running an older unit, send us the model and we'll confirm compatibility before you order.
Can I run it on a 24V system?

What is Bird Mode and how often would I actually use it?
Bird Mode boosts gain and filters the echo response to surface returns from flocks of birds, which on a fishing boat usually means baitfish are being driven up by predators below. Tuna and mahi crews use it almost every day. Coastal cruisers may never turn it on. It's a one-button toggle so it doesn't get in the way if you don't fish.
What's Dual Range good for?
Dual Range puts two range scales on your chartplotter at the same time using the same antenna. The common setup is a tight 1/4 to 1/2 mile range for hazards close to the boat and a longer 12 to 24 mile range for traffic and weather. Without Dual Range you'd be flipping between scales constantly.
Does MARPA tracking work without a heading sensor?
No. MARPA needs a heading reference from a compatible NMEA 2000 heading sensor or autopilot to compute target course and speed correctly. Without it you still get the radar picture, just no automated target tracking with vector overlays.
How big a boat is this radar sized for?
The 12kW xHD2 is offshore-grade radar. Garmin's positioning is for 30-foot to 70-foot boats running open-array radar for serious offshore use: long-range cruising, sportfishing, coastal commercial. Smaller boats are usually better served by a dome radar. Larger commercial vessels often step up to fully solid-state or higher-power magnetron systems.
