This is Icom's flagship fixed mount, and it shows. The display is a 4.3-inch color screen with roughly a 180-degree viewing angle and a proper night mode — meaningfully easier to read at a glance than the M510's 3.5-inch screen, especially in direct sun or from an awkward angle at the flybridge ladder. How to Choose: Four Questions
How many helms do you run?
One helm and the M510 covers it. Two stations — flybridge, tower, cockpit — and you want the M605 for the second and third control points. This is the single biggest factor.
How important is the phone app to you?
If the idea of changing channels and answering hails from your phone while you're up on the bow genuinely appeals to you, the M510 EVO is the only one of the two that does it. The M605 is a traditional hardwired flagship with no app.
How much screen do you want?
Both screens are good. The M605's 4.3-inch panel is just easier to read at a glance and from off-angle, which matters more on a bigger boat where you're not always standing square in front of it.
Do you need GPS in the radio itself?
The M605 has a built-in GPS receiver, so it'll get a DSC position fix even if your NMEA 2000 network is down. The M510 EVO relies on network GPS.
