The SVEHB1 is Seaview's flagship electrically actuated hinge, built for the kind of yacht installs where the radar arch, satellite dome, or rooftop antenna stack needs to come down for bridge clearance or storage and the captain wants to do it from the helm rather than climbing up to manually fold the mount. The hinge fits all Seaview mounts ending in the M1 or M2 designations, which covers the company's 7-inch and 10-inch base-plate mount families. Construction is what justifies the price tag. The hinge body is marine-grade aluminum with what Seaview calls expertly fabricated welds, which on this size of cantilever load matters more than it sounds. A weld failure on a hinge supporting a $40,000 satellite dome over the cockpit is the kind of failure nobody wants to think about. The finish stack is four layers deep: a corrosion-resistant chem treatment as the base, an epoxy polyester primer coat, and a polyester powder topcoat in superior gloss white. That finish is what keeps the hinge looking clean after years of salt exposure on a flybridge or hardtop installation. Most aluminum hinges in this market use a simpler powder-only or anodized finish that shows wear and pitting within a couple of seasons.

Two waterproof cable glands route the radar and antenna cables through the hinge body for a clean install. Without the glands, the cables either run exposed over the hinge (which looks ugly and rubs through over time) or punch through the mount in an unprotected hole that lets water in. The removable lid lets you service the actuator and the cable routing without disassembling the hinge, which is a meaningful design choice on a unit that's expected to last 10 to 20 years on a yacht. One thing worth knowing about specifying an electric hinge versus a manual hinge for the radar mount. Manual hinges are cheaper, simpler, and have no electrical failure modes, but they require somebody to climb up to the radar arch every time you need to lower the mount.
