Humminbird APEX 13 MSI+ Chartplotter 13.3" Full-HD Touchscreen — Product description

The Humminbird APEX 13 MSI+ (MPN 411470-1, UPC 00082324055324) is Humminbird's flagship 13.3-inch glass-helm multi-function display for serious freshwater and inshore saltwater anglers - the largest, brightest, and most capable MFD in the APEX series with industry-leading MEGA Side Imaging+ and MEGA Down Imaging+ sonar, built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP, a dedicated 2 kW 2D CHIRP sonar channel for accessory transducers, and full One-Boat Network integration for unified control with sister-brand trolling motors and Cannon Optimum downriggers. 13.3-inch Full HD LCD touchscreen at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution - sharper detail and better readability than competing chartplotters in this size class. Cross Touch interface lets you operate by touchscreen OR by soft keys on the bezel - touchscreen works great in dry conditions, soft keys work reliably in heavy chop, wet hands, or with fishing gloves where touchscreen accuracy degrades. MEGA Side Imaging+ extends sonar viewing 200 feet to each side of the boat with 20 percent more detail than original MEGA Side Imaging - find brush piles, isolated rock structure, and baitfish schools off to the sides without having to drive over them. MEGA Down Imaging+ delivers down-scanning sonar to 200 feet depth with 20 percent more clarity than original MEGA Down Imaging - photographic-quality detail of bottom structure, fish, and bait directly below. Compatible with MEGA Live Imaging (Humminbird's live-scanning sonar, accessory transducer required) and MEGA 360 Imaging (full 360-degree sonar sweeps up to 125 feet, accessory transducer required). Preloaded with charts of over 10,000 lakes plus coastal coverage for the continental U.S. Built-in GPS, NMEA 2000 networking, HDMI in/out, WiFi, and Bluetooth. Dual-core processor keeps multi-pane displays running smoothly even with multiple sonar feeds plus charts plus networking data on screen simultaneously. Important: this is the chartplotter HEAD UNIT only - sonar transducer(s) sold separately.

The Humminbird APEX 13 MSI+ is Humminbird's flagship 13.3-inch multi-function display for serious anglers - the largest screen in the APEX series, the most processor power, the most networking capability, and the most sonar capability built in. For tournament bass and walleye anglers running serious electronics setups, multi-rig pontoon owners, and any angler who wants the best Humminbird chartplotter available with room to network multiple specialized transducers (MEGA Live, MEGA 360, 2D CHIRP for deep-water applications), the APEX 13 MSI+ is Humminbird's top-tier offering.

13.3-inch Full HD display. The display is a 13.3-inch diagonal Full HD LCD at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution - the sharpest display in this size class on the Humminbird lineup. Full HD resolution matters specifically for sonar and chart detail viewing - the smaller a pixel size, the more detail you can see in MEGA Imaging sonar returns, the more precise chart features render, and the more usable information you can fit on a multi-pane split-screen view. Sunlight-readable for fishing in direct sun. Bright enough at full backlight to be readable in any lighting condition you'll encounter on the water.

Cross Touch interface - touch plus soft keys. The display works as both a touchscreen AND a soft-key bezel - all functions are accessible either way. Touchscreen is the default and works great in dry conditions for fast navigation. Soft keys on the bezel are critical for: heavy chop where touchscreen accuracy degrades, wet hands from fish handling, fishing gloves that touchscreens don't reliably register, and operation where you can't take your eyes off the water to touch precise screen locations. The hybrid interface is the best of both worlds - touchscreen speed when conditions allow, physical buttons when they don't. Many premium chartplotters use touchscreen-only - the APEX's Cross Touch is a meaningful usability advantage.

What MSI+ means. MSI+ stands for MEGA Side Imaging Plus - Humminbird's premium side-scanning sonar technology built into the chartplotter. The MSI+ designation in the model name tells you this APEX 13 includes both MEGA Side Imaging+ (the 200-foot side scanning) AND MEGA Down Imaging+ (200-foot down scanning) capabilities. Connect a compatible MEGA SI+ transducer to the chartplotter and you get the full MEGA imaging suite. Without the right transducer, even an MSI+ chartplotter can't deliver MEGA Imaging - the transducer is the key piece. The chartplotter is sold without a transducer in this listing - source the appropriate transducer separately based on your boat type and fishing application.

Built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP. Beyond MEGA Imaging, the APEX 13 includes built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP - the traditional 2D sonar you've always used (depth, fish arches, thermoclines, bottom hardness). CHIRP uses a range of frequencies (vs single-frequency fixed sonar) for better target separation and cleaner returns at typical fishing depths. Dual Spectrum means you can run high-frequency CHIRP for shallow detailed imaging OR low-frequency CHIRP for deep water - or split-screen both at once. Built-in means no separate sonar black box required for basic 2D CHIRP.

Dedicated 2 kW 2D CHIRP sonar channel. For serious deep-water applications (offshore tuna trolling, deep-water walleye on the Great Lakes, deep structure crappie fishing), the APEX 13 includes a dedicated sonar channel rated for 2 kW transducers - enough power to push CHIRP sonar to 5000+ feet depth with the right transducer. This is the differentiator vs lesser MFDs that max out at 1 kW transducers and 1500-2000 ft depth. For offshore use where you need real depth performance, the 2 kW capability matters.

MEGA Live Imaging compatible. The APEX 13 supports Humminbird's MEGA Live Imaging - the live-scanning sonar technology that competes with competing live-scan systems and the and ActiveTarget systems. MEGA Live shows you real-time fish behavior and structure around the boat, not just what passed under the transducer in the past. For tournament bass and walleye fishing where seeing fish reaction to your bait in real time is meaningful, MEGA Live is the difference-maker. Important: the MEGA Live transducer is sold separately - the APEX 13 chartplotter has the capability built in, but you need the MEGA Live transducer to deliver the live-scanning sonar feed.

MEGA 360 Imaging compatible. The APEX 13 also supports MEGA 360 Imaging - a full 360-degree sonar sweep around the boat extending 125 feet in all directions. The MEGA 360 transducer (sold separately, mounts on the trolling motor) physically rotates to scan the full 360-degree view. Useful for: idling over structure to see fish positions before stopping to fish, holding on a productive spot to monitor fish movement, and locating structure that would require multiple passes to find with directional sonar. Unique to Humminbird in the trolling motor mount category.

One-Boat Network integration. The APEX 13 is part of Humminbird's One-Boat Network ecosystem - the integrated control system that ties together Humminbird electronics, sister-brand sister-brand trolling motors, and sister-brand Cannon Optimum downriggers into one unified control experience. Control your trolling motor (Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, route follow) from the chartplotter touchscreen. Wireless downrigger control with depth automation. Shared waypoints, routes, and presets across all networked gear. For owners running a full Humminbird and sister-brand / Cannon ecosystem, One-Boat Network is a meaningful integration that eliminates separate control devices.

Preloaded mapping. The APEX 13 ships with detailed charts of more than 10,000 lakes plus coastal coverage for the continental U.S. - no separate chart card purchase required to get started. The lake mapping includes Humminbird's CoastMaster cartography and AutoChart Live (the ability to map a lake yourself in real-time during fishing, building custom contours as you cover the water - a powerful feature for fishing small unmapped private lakes or specific structure detail Humminbird hasn't published). Coastal coverage handles typical inshore saltwater navigation. For more detailed coastal navigation, add Navionics, C-MAP, or LakeMaster chart cards via the SD card slot.

NMEA 2000 networking. Full NMEA 2000 integration for: engine data (RPM, fuel flow, temp, alarms), VHF radio integration, AIS receiver / transponder, wind / depth / speed instruments, and any other NMEA 2000-compatible marine sensors and devices. The chartplotter displays NMEA 2000 data on dedicated instrument panels or as overlays on chart / sonar views. For boats with rich sensor networks, the APEX 13 is the unified display for all networked data.

HDMI in/out, WiFi, Bluetooth. The APEX 13 includes connectivity options most chartplotters don't have: HDMI input (display a video feed from a deck camera, FLIR thermal camera, or other HDMI-output device on the chartplotter screen), HDMI output (mirror the chartplotter display to a second monitor like a cabin TV or co-pilot screen), WiFi (smartphone app integration for software updates, chart updates, and remote display), and Bluetooth (for hands-free phone integration and accessory connections). The connectivity matters for owners building integrated marine electronics suites with non-Humminbird components.

Dual-core processor. The APEX 13 uses a dual-core processor - meaningfully faster than the single-core processors in older Humminbird MFDs. Practical benefits: smooth multi-pane display with multiple sonar feeds plus charts plus networking data all running simultaneously without slowdown, fast chart panning and zooming without lag, instant menu response, and the headroom to handle MEGA Live and MEGA 360 sonar feeds without performance issues.

What's NOT included. The APEX 13 MSI+ is the chartplotter HEAD UNIT only. NOT included: sonar transducer (essential - source the appropriate MEGA SI+ transducer separately based on your boat), MEGA Live transducer (separate purchase for live-scanning sonar), MEGA 360 transducer (separate purchase for 360-degree sonar), trolling motor (separate purchase for One-Boat Network integration), and any premium chart cards (preloaded mapping covers most use cases, premium cards are optional). Budget accordingly - a complete APEX 13 system with the right transducers and trolling motor integration runs significantly more than the chartplotter alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include a transducer?

No - the APEX 13 MSI+ is sold as the chartplotter HEAD UNIT only. To deliver MEGA Imaging sonar, you need a compatible MEGA SI+ transducer (sold separately). To use MEGA Live, you need the MEGA Live transducer. To use MEGA 360, you need the MEGA 360 transducer. To use the 2 kW deep-water CHIRP channel, you need a high-power 2 kW transducer. For most installations, the standard MEGA SI+ trolling-motor or transom-mount transducer is the starting point. Plan transducer purchases separately based on your boat type, fishing application, and depth requirements.

What's MSI+ vs MSI vs SI?

SI = Side Imaging (the original side-scanning sonar technology). MSI = MEGA Side Imaging (the second generation - higher frequency, more detail, 125 ft range each side). MSI+ = MEGA Side Imaging Plus (the third generation - same MEGA frequency, extended range to 200 ft each side, 20 percent more detail than MSI). MSI+ is the current premium tier and represents the best side-scanning sonar Humminbird makes. For owners upgrading from older SI or MSI gear, MSI+ is the meaningful step-up in capability.

What's the difference between MEGA Imaging and MEGA Live?

MEGA Imaging (MSI+, MDI+) is side and down scanning sonar - shows you what passed UNDER and to the SIDES of the boat as the boat moves. It's the standard for finding structure and fish over a range of water. MEGA Live is real-time live-scanning sonar - shows you what's around the boat RIGHT NOW, in real time, including fish movement and reaction to your bait. MEGA Live requires a separate MEGA Live transducer (typically mounted on the trolling motor) in addition to the standard MEGA Imaging transducer. For tournament-level bass and walleye fishing, both technologies complement each other - MEGA Imaging for surveying water and finding fish, MEGA Live for working specific fish you've located.

How does this compare to the APEX 16 MSI+?

Same feature set, different screen size. APEX 13 has 13.3-inch display. APEX 16 has 15.4-inch display - more screen real estate for multi-pane splits, easier to read at distance, but needs more dash space and costs more. Choose based on available dash space and your viewing distance: most center consoles with helm seat 3-4 ft from the display work well with the 13-inch, larger boats (28+ ft) with helm seat 4-5 ft from the display benefit from the 16-inch. Both have identical sonar, networking, and processing capabilities - just different physical sizes.

Will it work with my existing Humminbird transducer?

Depends on which transducer. The APEX 13 supports the full current MEGA SI+ transducer lineup directly. For older transducers: original Side Imaging (SI) transducers will NOT deliver MEGA Imaging - the APEX 13 will display them at standard SI quality. Original MEGA Imaging transducers will deliver MEGA quality but not the extended 200-ft range of MSI+. For older 2D CHIRP transducers, most work with the APEX 13's dedicated CHIRP channel via the appropriate cable adapter. Check the Humminbird transducer compatibility chart for your specific transducer model before assuming compatibility.

What's One-Boat Network?

One-Boat Network is Humminbird's ecosystem integration that ties together Humminbird electronics, sister-brand trolling motors (sister brand under Johnson Outdoors), and Cannon Optimum downriggers (sister brand) into one unified control system. Practical examples: control your sister-brand Spot-Lock and AutoPilot from the chartplotter touchscreen, automatic depth-tracking with Cannon Optimum downriggers (the downrigger automatically adjusts depth to track a contour line you set on the chartplotter), shared waypoints and routes across all networked gear. For owners running a full Humminbird and sister-brand / Cannon ecosystem, One-Boat Network eliminates the need for separate control devices and consolidates everything onto the chartplotter.

Can I use it in saltwater?

Yes - the APEX 13 is rated for both freshwater and saltwater use. Marine-grade waterproof construction and corrosion-resistant materials. Most appropriate for inshore saltwater applications (bay fishing, inshore stripers, snook, redfish, calico bass) where the MEGA Imaging shines in the relevant depth ranges. For offshore deep-water saltwater fishing, the 2 kW CHIRP capability matters more than MEGA Imaging - MEGA frequencies don't penetrate to the depths typical of offshore work. Plan transducer choice based on intended fishing depth.

What's the cutout size?

The APEX 13 requires a flush-mount cutout of approximately 12 inches wide by 9 inches tall, plus appropriate depth behind the dash for the chassis (typically 3-4 inches). Verify exact dimensions in the APEX 13 install manual before cutting. For helm dashes where the cutout would interfere with structural elements or other gear, consider bracket-mount or gimbal-mount installations using compatible mounting hardware (sold separately).

How much power does it use?

Typical average draw is approximately 3-4 amps at 12V (about 40-50 watts) with the display at full brightness and active sonar scanning. Peak draw can spike higher during heavy sonar use (multiple imaging modes simultaneously). Run dedicated 10 AWG marine-grade tinned cable to the chartplotter with a dedicated 10-15A breaker. Inadequate power supply can cause display dimming, sonar dropouts, or system resets during heavy use - size the power cabling for adequate margin.

What chart cards does it use?

The APEX 13 has an SD card slot for chart card additions. Compatible cards: Humminbird LakeMaster (premium freshwater lake mapping with high-resolution detail), Humminbird CoastMaster (premium coastal saltwater mapping), Navionics+ and Vision+ cards (alternative cartography for both fresh and saltwater), and C-MAP cards (alternative coastal cartography). The preloaded mapping covers most use cases - chart card upgrades are optional for owners wanting premium detail for specific fishing areas or specific cartography preferences.

Can I update software wirelessly?

Yes - via the built-in WiFi and the Humminbird companion smartphone app. Connect the chartplotter to your home WiFi (or your phone's hotspot at the dock) and the chartplotter downloads software updates automatically. The companion app also handles chart updates, waypoint backup, and trip planning that pushes to the chartplotter. Wireless updates are a significant convenience improvement vs older SD-card-only update workflows.

What's the warranty?

Standard Humminbird limited warranty applies, typically 2 years on the chartplotter for manufacturing defects. Humminbird's warranty service runs through authorized Humminbird / Johnson Outdoors dealers in the U.S. and Canada. Save the receipt and original packaging for warranty service.
