Furuno's 15-inch marine-grade LCD display monitor. The MU150HD is a multi-input display, not a chartplotter, sized to drive any of the black-box radar, sounder, sonar, or NavNet sources on a typical commercial or sport-fishing helm. 1000-nit brightness, anti-reflective bonded glass for fog-free flybridge service, three picture-in-picture-capable NTSC inputs.

The MU150HD is Furuno's 15-inch marine-grade LCD display monitor, sold as a standalone display unit (not a chartplotter). It's the part of the helm that owners spec when they have a black-box radar, sounder, or NavNet processor that needs a screen, or when they want a remote slave monitor at a secondary station (cockpit, flybridge, navigator's station, salon) that shows the same picture as the primary helm.

The display itself is the part Furuno engineered hardest. Standard consumer LCDs fail in marine service because UV degrades the panel, salt air corrodes the bezel, and humidity fogs the internal air gap between the LCD and the front glass. The MU150HD addresses each: the panel is a marine-grade TFT LCD rated for direct-sun service, the chassis is marine-rated against salt and vibration, and the LCD is optically bonded to the front anti-reflective glass with no air gap, which eliminates fogging on open flybridges where humidity and temperature swings would render a consumer monitor unreadable.

Brightness is 1000 cd/m2 typical, which is bright enough to remain readable in direct tropical sun without squinting. The AR (anti-reflective) coating on the front glass cuts glare from deck lights, cockpit headers, and the horizon at sunrise or sunset. Wide viewing angles mean the helmsman, navigator, and any crew clustered near the monitor all see the same picture without a brightness or contrast falloff at angle. An automatic dimmer sensor on the front of the bezel adjusts brightness based on ambient light, which means the screen doesn't blind you at night and isn't washed out at noon, without you having to manually adjust the backlight.

Is this a chartplotter or just a display?

Just a display. The MU150HD is a marine-grade LCD monitor with no built-in chart, GPS, sonar, or radar engine. It's sized to drive a black-box radar, sounder, sonar, or NavNet processor (separate equipment), or to serve as a remote slave monitor for the primary helm.

What sources can I plug into it?

One RGB analog input (legacy VGA-style), two DVI digital inputs (newer NavNet and black-box outputs), and three NTSC/PAL composite video inputs (cameras, DVD players, other peripherals). Mix and match across all six inputs.

What's Picture-in-Picture and how does it work?

Any of the three NTSC inputs can be displayed as a smaller window overlaid on top of the main DVI or RGB picture. The PIP window size and screen location are both adjustable. Common use: the main display shows the radar PPI screen, with a PIP window showing the engine-room camera or the cockpit camera.

Can I rename the inputs?

Yes. Each input can be assigned a custom name (Radar, Sounder, Engine Cam, Cockpit Cam, DVD, PC, etc). The on-screen display shows the named input, and switching between inputs is one button press. This is the operational difference between a chaotic multi-source helm and an organized one.

Does it scale automatically for newer equipment?

Yes. Automatic signal recognition detects the input signal type, resolution, and refresh rate, then configures the display itself. Newer Full-HD sources are scaled down cleanly to the 1024x768 native resolution without visual artifacts.

What's the brightness and is it auto-adjusting?

What mounting options are supported?

Will it work with my existing Furuno NavNet?

Yes. The MU150HD was designed to drive Furuno NavNet processors over DVI. Older NavNet generations connect cleanly, newer NavNet 3D and TZtouch processors also output video that the MU150HD scales appropriately.

Can I use it as a slave monitor at a secondary station?

Yes, that's one of the primary use cases. Run a DVI extender cable from the primary helm to the secondary station (flybridge, cockpit, navigator's station), and the MU150HD shows the same picture as the primary monitor. Most owners do this for at-anchor visibility from the salon, or for primary-helm visibility from the flybridge.

What's the resolution?

1024 by 768 pixels (XGA) with built-in scaler accepting up to SXGA (1280 x 1024). That's the resolution Furuno NavNet processors and black-box radar/sounder modules natively output, so the display renders them pixel-perfect. Newer Full-HD sources scale down cleanly.
