Lowrance Explorer Elite FS9 ActiveTarget Ice Kit US/Can — Product description

The Lowrance Explorer Elite FS9 with ActiveTarget Ice Kit (MPN 000-15956-001, UPC 9420064128167) is the complete ice fishing portable rig built around the Elite FS9 9-inch multi-touch fishfinder/chartplotter and the ActiveTarget Live Sonar transducer - giving ice anglers the same live-imaging fishfinding technology that's redefined open-water fishing, now fully portable for hardwater use. The kit includes everything needed to head straight to the lake: the Elite FS9 display (preloaded with C-MAP Contour+ charts for North America and Asia-Pacific), the ActiveTarget Live Sonar transducer with 10-foot cable, a premium Explorer Bag and Shuttle Frame for transporting and operating the rig on the ice, a premium ice transducer pole engineered specifically for ActiveTarget Forward, Down, and Scout views through the ice hole, and a 24 Ah lithium battery with dual USB charging ports plus built-in voltage display. ActiveTarget shows fish swimming around your structure and responding to your lure in real time at high resolution - watch fish come in, refuse a bait, swim away, or commit to the strike, all visible on the screen as it happens. Multi-touch operation works with gloves. Full touchscreen control of Power-Pole shallow water anchors and Ghost trolling motors when transferred to open-water boats. NMEA 2000 support. Drives Lowrance Halo radar domes directly. The integrated ice fishing system for serious hardwater anglers who want flagship live-sonar capability in a portable shuttle-mounted rig.

The Lowrance Explorer Elite FS9 ActiveTarget Ice Kit is the complete portable ice fishing electronics package - one box that delivers everything a serious ice angler needs: the flagship 9-inch Elite FS9 fishfinder/chartplotter display, the ActiveTarget Live Sonar transducer (the live-imaging sonar technology that's transformed competitive bass fishing in open water), a portable ice transducer pole engineered specifically for ActiveTarget views through ice holes, a premium Explorer Bag and Shuttle Frame that holds the rig safely while you fish and breaks down for portage, and a 24 Ah lithium battery with USB outputs and voltage display. The whole kit shuttles to the lake on the ice, sets up on the hole in minutes, and gives you live-resolution underwater video of fish responding to your lure.

What makes ActiveTarget the breakthrough sonar technology. Traditional sonar (CHIRP, conventional 2D) shows the bottom and fish targets, but the targets are abstract dots and arcs - you have to interpret what you're seeing. Side imaging and down imaging give better detail but show a fixed underwater snapshot rather than moving targets. ActiveTarget shows live underwater video at high resolution - fish look like fish, your lure looks like your lure, and you watch in real time as fish swim toward the bait, examine it, respond, and either commit to the strike or refuse and swim away. This is genuinely different from anything else in marine sonar. For ice anglers, it transforms hole-jumping into a precision activity - you literally see whether there are active fish below and you watch how they respond to different lure presentations.

Three viewing modes for ice fishing scenarios. ActiveTarget supports three view orientations through the transducer: (1) Forward view - the transducer scans horizontally out from the ice hole, showing fish swimming nearby that you can't catch unless you can attract them under the hole. (2) Down view - the transducer scans vertically downward through the hole, showing fish directly under the ice in front of your lure. (3) Scout view - a wider scanning pattern that shows a bigger area below. The premium ice transducer pole included in the kit is engineered to position the transducer correctly for any of the three views and to rotate the transducer to track fish movement.

The Elite FS9 display in detail. 9-inch high-resolution multi-touch display - bright enough to read in direct sunlight on ice, responsive enough to operate with cold-weather gloves. Preloaded with C-MAP Contour+ charts for North America (AMER) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) - so basic charting is built in without additional purchase. The display handles all of Lowrance's fishfinding technology: ActiveTarget Live Sonar (with this kit's transducer), Active Imaging 3-in-1 sonar (with the appropriate transducer for open-water boat use), FishReveal target separation, traditional CHIRP sonar, side-imaging SideScan, down-imaging DownScan, plus full chartplotter and route navigation capabilities.

The portable shuttle setup. The Explorer Bag and Shuttle Frame combination is the key to making the rig genuinely portable on ice. Frame mounts the display securely and houses the lithium battery and transducer pole. Bag protects everything during transport. Set up on the ice: drop the bag/frame next to the hole, deploy the transducer pole through the hole, power up. Total setup time at the hole: about 2 minutes. Total breakdown time for moving to a new hole: about 1 minute. The portability matters because productive ice fishing usually means hole-jumping to find active fish - traditional graph setups that take 5+ minutes to relocate punish hole-jumping.

24 Ah lithium battery with USB outputs and voltage display. LiFePO4 lithium battery chemistry - lighter than equivalent lead-acid (by about 60% weight savings), maintains voltage under load (so the Elite FS9's display stays bright even as the battery drains), and tolerates cold weather operation better than lead-acid (which dramatically loses capacity in subzero temperatures). 24 amp-hours of capacity gives you about 12-15 hours of fishing time per charge - more than enough for a full ice fishing day with margin. Dual USB charging ports let you charge phones and other accessories from the same battery. Built-in voltage display shows remaining capacity at a glance.

What's in the box. Elite FS9 Display (no transducer for boat use - the included transducer is ActiveTarget specifically). ActiveTarget Live Sonar transducer with 10-foot cable. Premium Explorer Bag for transport. Shuttle Frame for setup at the hole. Premium Ice Transducer Pole engineered for ActiveTarget Forward, Down, and Scout views. 24 Ah Lithium Battery with dual USB charging ports and built-in voltage display. All cables and basic install hardware. The kit is complete for ice fishing immediately on arrival.

Open-water boat use. When the ice melts, the Elite FS9 transfers to your open-water boat as a regular chartplotter/fishfinder. The display works with Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducers (sold separately) for open-water side-imaging and down-imaging sonar, supports the full NMEA 2000 marine network for engine data and instrument integration, drives Lowrance Halo radar domes directly for radar capability, and provides full touchscreen control of Power-Pole shallow water anchors and Ghost trolling motors over the network. So the kit isn't single-season equipment - the Elite FS9 is a flagship MFD that just happens to also work as ice fishing electronics.

Multi-touch operation with gloved hands. The capacitive touchscreen is engineered to respond to typical winter glove materials (heavy leather and synthetic gloves register touches in most cases). For very heavy mittens or for operation in extreme cold where touchscreens get sluggish, the unit also has hard keys for primary functions.

NMEA 2000 networking. When mounted on a boat, the Elite FS9 sits on the NMEA 2000 marine network for engine data display (RPM, fuel flow, fuel level, engine hours from compatible engines), instrument data integration, and AIS target display (with an AIS receiver on the same network). For ice fishing use, the NMEA 2000 capability isn't exercised but the underlying network connection is there for season transitions.

Total Control compatibility. The Elite FS9 has full touchscreen control of Power-Pole shallow water anchors and Ghost trolling motors - so when the kit transfers to your boat for the open-water season, you can deploy/retract the Power-Pole and command the Ghost from the chartplotter screen instead of (or in addition to) the dedicated remotes. Saves helm panel space and integrates the boat-control workflow with the fishfinding workflow on one screen.

This is a complete portable ice fishing rig at the high end of the market. The pricing reflects flagship components: Elite FS9 (9-inch flagship display), ActiveTarget Live Sonar (the breakthrough sonar technology), premium portable infrastructure (shuttle frame, transducer pole, lithium battery). For serious ice anglers who target trophy fish (lake trout, walleye, big perch, predator pike), the live-sonar capability of ActiveTarget is genuinely transformative - the ability to see fish reaction to lure presentation in real time produces better lure choices, better depths, better cadences, and ultimately more fish.

Frequently asked questions

What's actually included in the kit?

Elite FS9 9-inch fishfinder/chartplotter display, ActiveTarget Live Sonar transducer with 10-foot cable, premium ice transducer pole engineered for ActiveTarget views, Premium Explorer Bag for transport, Shuttle Frame for ice-side setup, 24 Ah lithium battery with dual USB ports and voltage display. Everything needed to ice fish immediately - no additional transducer or charts to source for ice use.

What is ActiveTarget Live Sonar?

Lowrance's live-imaging sonar technology - shows real-time high-resolution video of fish swimming around your lure. Unlike traditional sonar which displays fish as abstract dots and arcs, ActiveTarget shows fish that look like fish, with your lure visible in the picture, so you watch as fish swim toward the bait, examine it, and either commit to the strike or refuse and swim away. Three viewing modes (Forward, Down, Scout) cover different scenarios. Transformative for ice fishing precision because you literally see active fish below the hole and can adjust your presentation based on their reaction.

How long does the lithium battery last?

24 Ah capacity provides approximately 12-15 hours of fishing time per charge depending on screen brightness, transducer activity, and ambient temperature. That's plenty for a typical full day on the ice with margin. The lithium chemistry (LiFePO4) holds voltage well under load - so the display stays bright as the battery drains rather than dimming progressively. Lithium also performs dramatically better than lead-acid in subzero temperatures (lead-acid loses up to 50% capacity in extreme cold while lithium loses 10-20%).

Can I use it on my boat in open water?

Yes - the Elite FS9 is a full flagship-tier marine chartplotter/fishfinder that transfers to your boat for the open-water season. Connect Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer (sold separately) for open-water side-imaging and down-imaging sonar, integrate with NMEA 2000 for engine data and instruments, drive Halo radar domes for radar capability, and use Total Control to drive Power-Pole anchors and Ghost trolling motors from the display. The included ActiveTarget transducer also works on the boat for forward-looking sonar (with the appropriate boat-mount transducer pole, sold separately).

Can I operate the touchscreen with gloves?

Most winter gloves work - the capacitive touchscreen is tuned for typical leather and synthetic glove materials. Very heavy mittens or extreme-cold materials that don't conduct may not register touches well. For those scenarios, the unit also has hard keys for primary functions (power, mode switching, menu navigation) that work with any glove.

How fast does it set up at the hole?

Roughly 2 minutes from arrival to fishing. Drop the bag and frame next to the hole, deploy the transducer pole through the hole, connect the battery, power up the display, select the ActiveTarget view you want. Breakdown for moving to a new hole takes about 1 minute. The fast setup/breakdown is critical because productive ice fishing usually means hole-jumping until you find active fish - slow setup punishes hole-jumping.

What ice transducer pole comes with it?

A premium ice transducer pole specifically engineered for the ActiveTarget transducer. The pole positions the transducer correctly through an ice hole and allows rotation to switch between Forward, Down, and Scout views. Cheap aftermarket poles don't position the ActiveTarget transducer correctly for the live-sonar imaging to work properly - the included premium pole is purpose-built for this transducer and is one of the kit's value-add components.

Does it work in really cold weather?

Yes - designed for ice fishing temperatures. The lithium battery handles subzero conditions much better than lead-acid (which would lose half its capacity in extreme cold). The display works at typical ice-fishing temperatures, though touchscreens can get sluggish in extreme cold (below 0F) - the hard keys remain functional even when touch is sluggish. Keep the battery in the insulated bag when not actively using the rig to maintain capacity.

Will it work on lake ice?

Yes - that's the design intent. The transducer pole positions the ActiveTarget through the ice hole into the water below. Auger an 8-inch or 10-inch ice hole, drop the transducer pole through, power up the display. The sonar fires through the water below the ice and shows fish in the water column. Doesn't matter how thick the ice is above - the sonar only sees the water below the transducer.

Can I share data between this and other displays on my boat?

Yes when the FS9 is connected to a NMEA 2000 network with other displays. The Elite FS9 supports the full networking capability of the Lowrance lineup - multiple displays share sonar data, charting, waypoints, and other user data. So if you have a second FS display on your boat, both can show the same ActiveTarget sonar from the same transducer simultaneously, or show different chart views with shared waypoint sets.

What's the warranty?

Lowrance's standard product warranty applies. Lowrance's authorized service network handles in-warranty service. The Elite FS series has a strong field reliability record - failures are uncommon when the unit is properly maintained.

What's the difference vs the Active Imaging 3-in-1?

Active Imaging 3-in-1 is the traditional sonar transducer that does CHIRP traditional + SideScan + DownScan in one transducer (for boat use). ActiveTarget is the live-imaging sonar technology - a completely different sonar type that shows real-time underwater video of fish responding to lures. The Elite FS9 supports BOTH: Active Imaging 3-in-1 for traditional boat-mounted fishfinding, and ActiveTarget for live-sonar imaging. For ice fishing, you only need ActiveTarget (which is what's in this kit). For open-water fishing, most serious anglers run both transducers simultaneously.
