Choose the right pedestal system

A comfortable secure seat starts with the right pedestal and Springfield Marine has built seat mounting systems for boats for decades. This collection covers pedestal posts swivel bases mounting hardware seat slides and table packages. Picking the right setup comes down to the mounting system the post height and diameter and the swivel and slide features you want.

Pick a pedestal system

Springfield offers a few mounting systems and they are not interchangeable. Taper Lock uses a tapered post that locks into a matching base. Plug In posts drop into a flush base. Thread Lock and KingPin systems thread or pin for a more positive hold. Choose one system and stick with it across the boat so posts and bases swap cleanly between locations.

Match post diameter and height

Posts come in standard diameters commonly 2 3/8 inch and 2 7/8 inch and the base has to match the post. Height matters too. A fixed post sets one seating height while a Hi Lo or adjustable post lets you raise the seat to stand and steer or drop it to fish. Measure your seating height and pick fixed or adjustable based on how you use the spot.

Swivel and slide features

A locking swivel base lets the seat turn and lock at set positions which is handy at the helm and the table. Add a seat slide to move fore and aft for legroom or to reach the wheel. Locking versions hold position underway so the seat does not spin or slide in a chop.

Tables use the same posts

Springfield table packages mount on the same pedestal systems so a cockpit or cabin table can share a base with a removable seat. Plan shared bases where it makes sense to free up deck space when the table is stowed.

Match the seat and the load

Confirm the pedestal and base are rated for your seat and the way you use it and that the bolt pattern matches your seat or that you have the right adapter. A solid mount keeps the seat from rocking and protects the deck around it. Not sure which pedestal system fits your boat. Tell our crew your seat the heights you want and where the seats go and we will match the posts bases swivels and slides so everything mounts solid and swaps easily. Always check load ratings before final install and replace worn hardware to keep mounts tight in rough water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Springfield pedestal systems interchangeable?

No. Taper Lock Plug In Thread Lock and KingPin are different systems with matching posts and bases. Choose one system and use it across the boat so posts and bases swap cleanly between seating locations.

What post diameter do I need?

Posts come in standard diameters commonly 2 3/8 inch and 2 7/8 inch and the base must match the post. Check your existing base or pick a matched post and base set so they lock together correctly.

Should I get a fixed or adjustable height post?

A fixed post sets one seating height while a Hi Lo or adjustable post lets you raise the seat to stand and steer or lower it to fish. Choose adjustable if you want flexibility at the helm or a fishing seat.

What does a locking swivel and slide do?

A locking swivel lets the seat turn and lock at set positions and a slide moves it fore and aft for legroom or to reach the wheel. Locking versions hold position underway so the seat does not spin or slide in a chop.

Can a table share a base with a seat?

Yes. Springfield table packages mount on the same pedestal systems so a removable seat and a table can share a base. That frees up deck space when the table is stowed and the seat is in place.

How do I confirm load rating for my setup?

Check the pedestal base and post specs against the seat weight plus any dynamic loads from waves or movement. Match bolt patterns or use proper adapters to keep the mount secure.
