This is the little black end fitting that connects a gas lift support to the ball stud on your hatch or locker lid. When the old one cracks or pops off, the whole lid stops holding itself open, and that's usually all that's failed. The Whitecap G-1030C snaps right back on and you're done.
It's molded from composite plastic and sized for a 10 millimeter ball stud, which is the common size on a lot of marine gas springs and lift supports. The socket clips over the ball and holds, no tools needed beyond maybe a flat screwdriver to pop the old one loose.
It ships as a single fitting, so if both ends of your strut are worn, grab two. Keep a spare in the parts box too. These are cheap, and a cracked one always seems to let go at the worst time.
