Whale WX1514B 1/2 BSP Male to 15mm Quick Connect Adapter — Product description

The Whale WX1514B is the fitting that brings a threaded water port into the 15mm Quick Connect system. One end is a 1/2 inch BSP male thread, the other a 15mm push-fit socket. Screw it into your tank, pump, or manifold port, push your 15mm pipe home, and you're sealed. No tools, no clamps.

If you've ever tried to tie a threaded water port into a push-fit plumbing run, you know the headache. The Whale WX1514B solves it. It's a simple adapter with a 1/2 inch BSP male thread on one end and a 15mm female Quick Connect socket on the other. Thread it into a port, push your 15mm semi-rigid pipe into the socket, and the two systems talk to each other. No clamps, no glue, no tools.

Here's where it earns its place. Lots of marine and RV water gear ships with a 1/2 inch BSP threaded port. Water heaters, accumulator tanks, filter housings, pump heads, shut-off valves, manifolds. Your fresh water run, though, is 15mm Quick Connect pipe. This adapter is the bridge. Screw the BSP end into the threaded port, snug it down with a little thread sealant on the male thread, and you've got a clean 15mm push-fit socket ready for the next length of pipe.

The Quick Connect side works like the rest of the system. Cut your 15mm pipe square, deburr the end, and push it firmly into the socket until it seats home. An internal collet grips the pipe and an O-ring seals it. That's it. If you need to pull the line apart later, press the release collar in against the body and the pipe slides out. The fitting is reusable, so a mid-season reroute or a winterizing teardown doesn't cost you a new part every time.

The body is glass-filled polypropylene, molded in white. That matters on a boat. It won't corrode the way a brass fitting can when it sits in a damp bilge or a locker that never fully dries out. It handles the knocks and the temperature swings of a freshwater system without going brittle, and it keeps the weight down. One fitting, one job, done right.

Use it on potable and fresh water. That's what the Quick Connect system is built for. Don't put it on a fuel line, a gas line, or a waste line. Those are different jobs with different fittings, and this one isn't rated for them. Keep it on your drinking water and wash-down plumbing and it'll run for years.

A quick word on the thread, because it trips people up. BSP and NPT are not the same thread. BSP is the British Standard Pipe thread used across a lot of European-built marine and caravan water gear, which is exactly where Whale Quick Connect fittings tend to live. If your port is cut for NPT, this adapter won't seat correctly, and forcing it will damage the thread. Check what your port is cut for before you buy. When the port is 1/2 inch BSP, this is the piece you want.

One more install tip. A few wraps of PTFE tape or a smear of water-safe thread sealant on the BSP male thread gives you a clean, dry joint without cranking the fitting down hard. Hand-tight plus a gentle nudge with a wrench is usually plenty. Over-torquing a plastic fitting is the fastest way to crack it, so go easy and let the sealant do its work on the threaded side.

This is sold as a single adapter. It doesn't come with pipe, pipe clips, or a length of hose, so pick those up alongside it if you're building out a run from scratch. For most installs, though, you already have the pipe in hand and you just need the one fitting to make the transition. That's the WX1514B. It's the kind of part you keep a spare of in the spares box, because the day you need a BSP-to-15mm adapter is usually the day you're already elbow-deep under the sink.

Frequently asked questions

What does the WX1514B adapter do?

It converts a 1/2 inch BSP male thread into a 15mm Quick Connect push-fit socket. Thread it into a port, push your 15mm pipe home, and you've bridged a threaded connection into the push-fit system.

What size and type of thread is on this fitting?

It's a 1/2 inch BSP male thread. BSP is the British Standard Pipe thread used on a lot of European-built marine and caravan water gear.

Is BSP the same as NPT?

No. BSP and NPT are different thread standards and don't seat together correctly. Check what your port is cut for before you buy. This adapter is for 1/2 inch BSP ports only.

What pipe does the Quick Connect side take?

It takes 15mm semi-rigid Quick Connect pipe. Cut the pipe square, deburr the end, and push it into the socket until it seats home.

How do I disconnect the pipe?

Press the release collar in against the body of the fitting and pull the pipe out. The fitting is reusable, so you can reconnect it afterward.

What's the body made of?

Glass-filled polypropylene, molded in white. It resists corrosion in damp spaces better than brass and stays light.

Can I use it for fuel or gas?

No. The Quick Connect system is built for potable and fresh water only. Don't use it on fuel, gas, or waste lines.

Do I need tools to install it?

Not for the push-fit side. For the threaded side, a few wraps of PTFE tape or thread sealant and a gentle snug with a wrench is all it takes. Don't over-torque a plastic fitting.

Does it come with pipe or clips?

No. This is a single adapter. Pipe, pipe clips, and hose are sold separately.

Will it seal without a hose clamp?

Yes. The push-fit side uses an internal collet and an O-ring to grip and seal the pipe, so no hose clamp is needed on that connection.
