Start with the frame. It's rotationally-molded marine-grade polyethylene, which is a fancy way of saying the base is one solid, hollow-molded shell instead of a stapled-together plywood box. That matters on the water. Plywood seat bases are the number-one thing that rots out on older boats, and once the wood goes soft the staples pull and the whole seat gets wobbly. This one won't rot, won't delaminate, and shrugs off the deck flex you get when you're running across chop. On top of the frame you get mildew-resistant polyurethane foam and marine-grade vinyl, both chosen to handle UV and standing water.

The upholstery details are where the Platinum name earns its keep. The vinyl is UV and mildew treated, so it doesn't chalk or get that sticky, cracked feel after a couple of seasons in the sun. It's stitched with polyester UV-resistant thread, so the seams hold long after cheaper cotton-blend thread would have rotted and let go. The staples and mounting fasteners are stainless steel, not plated steel, which means no rust streaks bleeding down your nice white cushions. Little stuff, sure. But it's the little stuff that decides whether a seat still looks good in year five.

Lift the cushion and there's a real storage compartment molded into the base. It's a great spot for life jackets, dock lines, fenders, or a wet anchor rode you don't want sliding around the deck. Taylor Made molded drainage channels into the base too, so if water gets in from rain or a wave over the bow, it runs out instead of pooling and turning your storage locker into a swamp. That drainage is the difference between a dry PFD when you need it and a moldy one.

This is a non-adjustable, non-foldable bench with no headrest, so think of it as fixed seating rather than a recliner. A quick word on mounting. The base has a flat bottom and set mounting points, and on most pontoon decks you'll through-bolt it with backing plates or large fender washers under the deck. Direct screw-in on thin glass is how you end up with cracked gelcoat and a wobbly seat a season later. Take your time, bed your fasteners in sealant, and this bench isn't going anywhere. Care is easy. Wipe the vinyl down with mild soap and water, keep it covered when the boat's on the trailer, and it'll hold its color. Don't hit the vinyl with harsh solvents or bleach, they break down the UV coating and shorten its life. Do that much, and this is a seat that'll outlast the next couple of consoles you put in.
