Taylor Made 45990 Side Guard Edge Trim, 10' Black — Product description

The Taylor Made Premium Side Guard is a 10-foot coil of double-molded vinyl edge trim that takes the hits your boat's edges shouldn't. Run it along a gunwale, hatch lip, or locker door, fasten it with screws or nails, and let it wear in place of your gelcoat.

The Taylor Made Premium Side Guard is edge trim built to take the hits your boat's edges shouldn't. It's a 10-foot coil of double-molded vinyl that you run along a gunwale, a hatch lip, a locker door, or any exposed edge that keeps catching a knee, a fender line, or the corner of the dock. Instead of chewing up your gelcoat, the guard wears in its place.

Double molded means two layers doing two jobs. The outer skin is the tough part, the one that shrugs off scrapes and dock rash. Underneath it there's a softer core with a bit of give, and that's what lets the trim hug the edge tight and soak up a knock instead of transferring it straight into the fiberglass. It's a simple idea, but it's the difference between trim that lasts a few seasons and trim that cracks the first cold snap.

You fasten it down with screws or nails through the base, so this is a permanent install, not a push-on strip that walks loose in a chop. That matters on a boat. Anything that can rattle free eventually will, and a guard that stays put is a guard that's actually doing its job three summers from now. Fiberglass, wood, aluminum, it fastens to all of them.

The black finish is the quiet kind. It works with just about any hull or trim color, and it hides scuffs the way a light color never will. And because it's built for marine use, the vinyl doesn't mind sun, salt, or a season of spray. It won't fade out or turn brittle on you.

One coil covers 10 feet. If you're trimming a long run or hitting a few spots around the boat, measure first and grab enough coils to finish the job without splicing mid-run. Good for gunwale edges, hatch and locker lips, transom corners, and anywhere a hard edge meets something softer.

Key Features

  • 10-foot coil of double-molded vinyl edge trim covers a good stretch of gunwale, hatch, or deck edge in one run

  • Marine-grade vinyl stands up to sun, salt, and spray without cracking or fading

Frequently asked questions

What does the Taylor Made Side Guard protect?

It's edge trim. You run it along an exposed edge, a gunwale, a hatch lip, a locker door, or a transom corner, and it takes the hits instead of your gelcoat. Anywhere two things bump or a sharp edge catches a knee or a fender line, this guards it.

How long is one coil?

Each coil is 10 feet. Measure your run first. If you've got a long edge or several spots to cover, grab more than one coil so you're not splicing in the middle of a run.

How does it mount?

Screw or nail mount. You fasten it down through the base, so it stays put on wood, fiberglass, or aluminum. That makes it a permanent install, not a slip-on, so it won't walk off in rough water.

What does double molded mean?

Two layers. A tougher outer skin over a more forgiving inner core. You get abrasion resistance on the outside and a bit of give underneath, which is what lets it hug an edge and absorb a knock.

Will it hold up in salt water and sun?

Yep. It's built for marine use, so the vinyl resists UV, salt, and constant spray. It won't get brittle and crack the way indoor trim does after a season outside.

What color is it?

Black. It's a clean, neutral look that works with most hull and trim colors and doesn't show scuffs the way a light color would.
