TACO Metals Marine Lumber 12x27x1/2 Black Polyethylene — Product description

This is TACO Metals marine lumber, a 12 by 27 inch sheet of half-inch black polyethylene. It won't rot, swell, or splinter, so it's the go-to for backing plates, equipment mounts, and trim that lives out in the weather. You work it with regular woodworking tools. Cut it, drill it, rout it, and it stays put.

Every boat ends up needing a piece of marine lumber somewhere. A backing plate behind a cleat. A mounting pad for a fishfinder bracket. A little shelf in a console that keeps getting splashed. This TACO Metals board is made for exactly that. It's a half-inch thick sheet of black polyethylene, 12 inches by 27 inches, and it simply doesn't care about water.

Wood rots. Plywood delaminates. This stuff doesn't. Polyethylene won't absorb moisture, won't swell, and won't splinter, so a part you cut today looks the same a few seasons from now. The black color hides scuffs and holds up to sun exposure without fading fast.

Best part? You work it like wood. Cut it on a table saw, drill it, rout a clean edge, and fasten it with regular screws. No special tools, no sealing, no painting. If you've done any boat carpentry, you already know how to use it. Keep a sheet in the shop and you'll reach for it more than you'd think.

Key Features

  • Half-inch (1/2 in) thickness gives you a rigid backing plate or mount that won't flex under load
  • 12 x 27 inch sheet covers most backing-plate and equipment-mount jobs with room to cut to size
  • Marine-grade polyethylene won't rot, swell, or delaminate the way wood and plywood do
  • Black finish resists sun exposure and hides scuffs, so it stays looking clean in exposed spots
  • Cuts, drills, and routs with standard woodworking tools, no sealing or painting needed

Frequently asked questions

What is this marine lumber made of?

It's solid polyethylene, a marine-grade plastic. That's why it won't rot, swell, or absorb water the way wood does.

What size is this board?

It measures 12 inches long by 27 inches wide, and it's a half-inch (1/2 inch) thick.

Can I cut and drill it myself?

Yep. You work it just like wood. Cut it on a table saw, drill it, and rout the edges with standard tools. Fasten it with regular screws, no sealing or painting required.

What do people use it for?

Backing plates behind cleats and hardware, mounting pads for electronics and brackets, console shelves, and trim pieces that sit out in the weather.

Will the black color fade in the sun?

Polyethylene holds up well to sun exposure, and the black finish hides scuffs. It'll stay looking clean far longer than painted wood in the same spot.
