T-H Marine 4-Way Flat Trailer Wire Connector, 24 in — Product description

The T-H Marine 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Connector gives you a clean, color-coded way to extend or repair the lighting hookup between your tow vehicle and trailer. It's a 24-inch run with a 4-pole male plug on one end and a 4-pole female socket on the other, rated for 12-volt DC trailer lighting.

If you've ever crawled under a boat trailer with a test light trying to figure out why the left blinker quit, you know trailer wiring is where a lot of good weekends go sideways. This T-H Marine 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Connector gives you a clean, color-coded way to extend or repair the lighting hookup between your tow vehicle and your trailer. It's a 24-inch run with a 4-pole male plug on one end and a 4-pole female socket on the other, so it drops inline wherever you need more reach or a fresh set of ends.

The 4-way flat is the workhorse of light-duty trailering. It carries the three lighting functions just about every boat, utility, and small cargo trailer needs: running and tail lights, left turn and brake, right turn and brake, plus a ground. If your trailer runs its lights off the tow vehicle and doesn't have electric brakes, this is almost certainly the plug hanging off your bumper. Four wires, four pins, done.

T-H Marine built this one to be flexible. Run it as a straight 24-inch extension when your existing harness comes up a little short, or cut it to the exact length you need and splice it into a repair. The wires are color coded to the standard 4-way layout, so matching functions is straightforward. White is your ground, brown runs the tail and running lights, yellow handles the left turn and brake, and green takes the right turn and brake. Match color to color and you're not guessing.

Boat trailers are hard on wiring. You back them down a ramp, dunk the whole rig in fresh or salt water, then let it bake in the sun. That cycle corrodes cheap connectors fast. When we rig one of these, we pack the pins with dielectric grease before we plug them together, and we zip-tie the connector up off the ramp spray where we can. A little prep like that is the difference between lights that work all season and a connector that greens up by July.

Before you hit the road, run a quick function check. Have someone work the tow vehicle's lights while you walk the trailer: left blinker, right blinker, brakes, then the running lights with the headlight switch on. If one function is dead, the color coding makes it easy to trace. A cheap circuit tester on each pin tells you in seconds whether the problem is upstream in the connector or downstream in a trailer light. More often than not on an older trailer, it's a tired ground, and this connector's dedicated white ground wire gives you a clean place to start.

This is the right part if you're extending a short factory harness, replacing a connector that's seen better days, or wiring up a new light-duty trailer from scratch. It is not a brake controller hookup. A 4-way flat carries lights and ground only, so if your trailer has surge or electric brakes that need their own circuit, you'll want a 5-way or 7-way setup instead. For the vast majority of single and tandem-axle boat trailers running LED or incandescent lights, though, the 4-way is exactly what you want.

Installation is about as simple as trailer wiring gets. Plug the male end into your tow vehicle's trunk-side connector, route the 24-inch lead cleanly so it isn't dragging or pinched, and plug the female end into the trailer harness. If you're splicing instead of plugging, strip back the color-coded wires, join like to like with heat-shrink butt connectors, and seal everything up. Twelve volts DC, four functions, color coded end to end. It's a small part, but getting your trailer lights right keeps you legal and keeps the boat behind you visible to everyone sharing the road on the way home from the lake.

Key Features

  • 4-way flat connector handles the three core trailer lighting functions plus ground, the standard for light-duty boat and utility trailers.
  • 24-inch length gives you room to extend a short factory harness or reach a relocated connector without splicing.
  • Male and female 4-pole ends plug inline, so it drops into an existing hookup without adapters.
  • Color-coded wires match the standard 4-way layout, making function-to-function connections quick and foolproof.
  • Cut-to-length design lets you trim it to the exact run you need for a clean repair.
  • Rated for 12-volt DC, matching standard automotive and marine trailer lighting systems.
  • Trunk-side connector wires to the tow vehicle and bridges to the trailer harness.

Frequently asked questions

What does this T-H Marine connector do?

It extends or repairs the 4-way flat lighting hookup between your tow vehicle and your trailer. The 24-inch lead has a 4-pole male plug on one end and a 4-pole female socket on the other, so it plugs inline wherever you need more reach or a new set of ends.

Can I cut it to length?

Yes. T-H Marine designed it so you can run it as a straight 24-inch extension or cut it to the exact length you need and splice it into a repair. Join the color-coded wires like to like with heat-shrink butt connectors.

What do the four wires control?

They follow the standard 4-way flat layout. White is the ground, brown runs the tail and running lights, yellow handles the left turn and brake, and green takes the right turn and brake. Matching color to color keeps the hookup simple.

How long is it?

The lead is 24 inches, which is enough to bridge a short factory harness or reach a relocated connector without adding a splice.

Will it work on a boat trailer?

Yes. It's rated for 12-volt DC trailer lighting, which is what boat, utility, and small cargo trailers run. We suggest packing the pins with dielectric grease before you connect them to fight off ramp-water corrosion.

Does it add electric or surge trailer brakes?

No. A 4-way flat carries the three lighting functions plus ground only. If your trailer has electric or surge brakes that need their own circuit, you'll want a 5-way or 7-way connector instead.

Is this the tow vehicle side or the trailer side?

It's a trunk-side connector, meaning it ties to the tow vehicle. Because it carries both a male and a female 4-pole end, it bridges the gap between the vehicle and the trailer harness.

What kind of trailers use a 4-way flat?

Light-duty single and tandem-axle trailers that run their lights off the tow vehicle, such as most boat trailers, small utility trailers, and light cargo trailers. It covers running lights, turn signals, and brake lights plus a ground.
