Springfield 1601037 Power-Rise Stand-Up Fishing Seat Package

If you fish standing up, you already know a folding lean-post seat gets in your way. The Springfield 1601037 is built the other direction. It's a stand-up fishing package that puts you at the right height to sight cast, work a shoreline, or keep an eye on the water while you're running the trolling motor from the bow. Post, tilt mount, and seat all come together in one Taper-Lock package.

The heart of it is the Power-Rise post. It's a 2-3/8 inch diameter stand-up post that adjusts anywhere from 25-1/2 inches up to 32-1/2 inches. Power-Rise means the post carries a gas assist, so raising the seat takes a light pull instead of a fight. Drop the post into any Springfield Taper-Lock base and it locks in with no side-to-side slop. That Taper-Lock fit is the whole point. You get the height of a stand-up post with the quick-release convenience of the Taper-Lock system, so the seat lifts right out when you want the deck clear.

On top sits the Quik-Tilt seat mount. It lets you angle the seat forward or back to find the spot that keeps your back happy on a long day. The seat itself is gray marine vinyl over molded foam, no headrest, which keeps the profile low so it's not catching your rod on the backcast. It's a non-foldable frame, and that's on purpose. Install is straightforward if you already run the Taper-Lock system. The seat package fits any Taper-Lock base, so if you've got bases set at the bow and the stern, one seat covers both stations. If you're starting fresh, you'll need to add a Taper-Lock base, which isn't included here. For the most solid feel at full extension, back the base with a 3/4 inch plywood or aluminum backing plate under the deck. That spreads the load and kills any flex you'd otherwise feel standing at the top of the post.

Who's it not for? If you spend all day seated on a pontoon and never stand to fish, a standard fixed pedestal seat makes more sense and costs less. The Power-Rise stand-up setup earns its keep when you're up on your feet a lot, popping between sitting and standing, and you want the seat to disappear when it's time to net a fish or clear the deck.
