Shore power is where a lot of boats hide their biggest electrical risk. A few install notes worth knowing up front. ABYC wants the ELCI breaker within 10 feet of the shore power inlet, so plan the mounting spot near where the cord lands. The unit needs some depth behind it, so a shallow locker on a smaller sailboat can be tight, measure before you cut. Keep neutral and ground isolated downstream of the ELCI. If they get bonded together past the sensor, it'll read that as leakage and nuisance-trip every time you plug in. And skip any pigtail adapter that defeats the ground-fault path, it'll do the same thing.

Older boats sometimes fight an ELCI at first, and that's usually the ELCI doing its job. Decades of AC wiring, a damp motor, a tired water heater element, any of it can leak enough current to trip a healthy sensor. Before you blame the kit, have the AC system insulation tested. More often than not the ELCI is catching a real fault that a plain breaker was ignoring.

Out in the salt, give the stainless door a little attention. Owners who pull the hinge pins once a season and grease them don't get seized hinges later. It's a two-minute job that keeps the door swinging for years.
