Sierra 65501P Lido Oil Pressure Gauge 2" 0-80 PSI

Oil pressure is one of those numbers you want to be able to read without thinking about it. Glance down, see the needle sitting where it should, and get back to running the boat. That's the whole job of the Sierra 65501P. It's a 2-inch analog oil pressure gauge from the Lido series, and it reads from 0 to 80 PSI on a short electrical sweep movement built for the marine environment.

The Lido styling keeps things simple and legible. You get a white face, a polished bezel, and a black pointer with an orange tip that stands out against the dial. In daylight the contrast makes the reading easy to catch out of the corner of your eye. When the sun drops, thru-dial and perimeter lighting take over, so the gauge stays readable on a night run back to the ramp. It's a clean, honest instrument face with no clutter.

Under the bezel it's a short electrical sweep gauge. That means it works with a compatible oil pressure sending unit threaded into the engine, and the sender does the measuring while the gauge shows the result. The sending unit isn't included in the box, so if you're replacing an old gauge, match the new one to the sender already on your engine, or plan to fit the matching Sierra sender at the same time. Getting the gauge and sender paired correctly is what keeps the needle honest. A mismatched sender is the number one reason a new gauge reads high, low, or pegged.

Wiring is straightforward 12 Volt DC. The gauge lands in a standard 2-inch panel opening, and the housing is short front to back, which helps on tight center-console dashes where there isn't much room behind the panel for wire connectors. If you're building or refreshing a helm, that shallow depth is worth knowing about before you cut. One tip from the install crowd: tape the edges of the cutout while you seat the polished bezel so you don't scuff it during fit-up.

This version comes without a programmable warning indicator, so there's no built-in low-pressure alarm. That's not a downside for most boats. It just means the gauge does one thing and does it clearly. You watch the needle. If you want an audible alert, you'd add a separate monitoring device on the engine. For a lot of outboards and simpler inboard setups, a clean analog readout is exactly what you want at the helm.

Keep in mind this is a 12 Volt DC gauge. If your boat runs a 24-volt house or start system, this isn't a direct drop-in without the right wiring, so check your system voltage before you order. On a standard 12-volt boat it wires in like any other analog gauge, and the lighting ties into your dash light circuit. For most trailer boats, bass boats, bay boats, and small cruisers, 12 volts is exactly what you've got, and this gauge is right at home.

Who's it for? Anybody replacing a tired or fogged-up oil pressure gauge, or rigging a fresh helm on a center console, runabout, or small cruiser running a 12-volt system. Sierra builds this line to meet or exceed the original equipment part it replaces, and they supply a lot of the same parts to engine and boat builders, so you're getting a known quantity. It's an inexpensive part that tells you something important about your engine every time you look at it. That's a good trade.

A couple of install notes worth repeating. The perimeter and thru-dial lighting pulls a little current, so wire it through your existing instrument light circuit rather than hanging it off something unswitched. And on an outboard console that vibrates hard, snug the mounting studs down properly so the gauge doesn't work loose over a season. None of it is complicated. It's a straightforward swap for anybody who's wired a gauge before, and not a bad first project if you haven't.
