Sea-Dog Stern Tie-Down Mount, 304 Stainless Steel — Product description

When you're towing your boat down the highway, the stern needs to stay put. This Sea-Dog stern tie-down mount gives you a solid 304 stainless steel eye to run your transom straps to, rated at 28,000 pounds. The 1/2 inch threaded shaft, adjustable nut, and backing plate handle the load and shrug off saltwater corrosion.

Trailering a boat puts real stress on the stern. Every bump, every hard stop, the back of the hull wants to move. This Sea-Dog stern tie-down mount gives you a proper anchor point for your transom straps so the stern stays planted from the ramp to the driveway. It's a single eye with a 1/2 inch NC threaded shaft, and Sea-Dog rates it at 28,000 pounds.

The whole thing is made from 304 stainless steel. That's the grade you want for hardware that lives outside and takes a beating from rain, road salt, and saltwater spray. It won't rust out on you after a season or two the way plated steel does. The shaft runs 6-5/8 inches, which gives you plenty of length to pass through a transom and still have thread to spare for the adjustable nut.

Installation is straightforward. You drill through the transom, pass the threaded shaft through, and back it up on the inside with the included 3 inch by 3/4 inch backing plate. That plate spreads the load across a wider area of fiberglass or aluminum, so you're not relying on a single washer to hold everything. The adjustable nut lets you snug it down and set the eye where you want it. Bed it in a good marine sealant and you're done.

This is the mount you run your ratchet or cam straps to when you tie the stern down for towing. Anglers hauling a bass boat, families trailering a runabout, anyone who tows regularly knows the bow strap alone isn't enough. A pair of these at the transom corners keeps the hull from shifting on the bunks. It's sold singly, so grab two if you're setting up both corners.

One thing to keep in mind. This is a tie-down eye, not a towing or lifting point. It's built for securing the boat on a trailer. If you need a lifting eye or a tow eye, that's a different piece of hardware. For its job, holding the stern down during transport, it's about as solid as they come.

Frequently asked questions

What is this stern tie-down mount used for?

It's a stainless steel eye that mounts on your boat's transom and gives you an anchor point for tie-down straps when you're trailering. You run your ratchet or cam straps from the eye down to the trailer so the stern doesn't shift on the road.

Is it one eye or a pair?

It's sold as a single unit. Most folks setting up both stern corners buy two.

What material is it made from?

304 stainless steel, which holds up to saltwater, road salt, and rain without rusting out.

How long is the threaded shaft?

The shaft is 6-5/8 inches with a 1/2 inch NC thread, long enough to pass through most transoms and still leave thread for the adjustable nut.

Does it come with a backing plate?

Yes. It includes a 3 inch by 3/4 inch backing plate and an adjustable nut. The backing plate spreads the load across the transom instead of concentrating it at one point.

Can I use this as a lifting or tow eye?

No. This is a tie-down eye for securing your boat on a trailer, not a lifting or towing point. Use dedicated lifting or tow hardware for those jobs.
