Sea-Dog Double Female UHF Coax Connector, Brass — Product description

The Sea-Dog double female UHF connector is a nickel-plated brass barrel that couples two coax runs together. Each end takes a standard PL-259 male plug, so it's the quick fix when a VHF antenna cable comes up short or needs an extension at the helm.

Need to join two runs of coax? This Sea-Dog double female UHF connector is the little brass barrel that does it. Both ends are female UHF, so each side accepts a standard PL-259 male plug. Thread one cable into each end and you've got a solid electrical joint between the two.

It's a common fix on boats. Maybe your VHF antenna cable came up short during a re-rig, or you need to splice in an extension to reach the radio at the helm. Rather than re-terminate a whole new cable, you couple the existing ends together and move on. It's also handy on the bench for testing or swapping antennas without cutting anything.

The body is nickel-plated brass, which holds up to salt air a lot better than bare brass. At 9/16 inch across and 1-1/8 inch long, it's compact enough to tuck behind the dash or inside a console. One thing to keep in mind: it isn't a sealed connector on its own. If the joint lives somewhere exposed to spray, wrap it with self-fusing or quality electrical tape to keep moisture out.

Frequently asked questions

What does a double female UHF connector do?

It couples two coax cables together. Each end is a female UHF socket, so it accepts a standard PL-259 male plug on both sides. Screw one cable into each end and you've joined them into a single run.

Will this work with my marine VHF antenna cable?

Yes. Marine VHF antenna coax uses standard UHF connectors with PL-259 plugs, and this coupler mates two of them. It's a common way to add an extension or reconnect a cable without re-terminating it.

What's it made of?

Nickel-plated brass. The plating helps it stand up to salt air and resist corrosion better than bare brass, which matters for anything living on a boat.

Is the connection waterproof?

Not on its own. The connector gives you a solid electrical joint, but if it's mounted somewhere exposed to spray or weather, wrap it with self-fusing or quality electrical tape to keep moisture out.
