Sea-Dog 2 AWG Black Battery Cable, 25 ft Tinned Copper Spool — Product description

Sea-Dog's 2 AWG battery cable gives you a heavy-gauge, tinned-copper run for your boat's DC power and battery connections. It comes as a 25-foot spool with no terminals attached, so you cut it to length and crimp the lugs your install needs. Black jacket, UL listed and ABYC certified.

When you're running power from the battery bank to a windlass, an inverter, a bow thruster, or the main distribution panel, you want cable that can carry the current without heating up or dropping voltage. This is Sea-Dog's 2 AWG battery cable. Two gauge is a heavy conductor, sized for the high-amperage DC runs where thin wire just won't cut it.

The conductor is tinned copper. That matters on the water. Bare copper corrodes when salt air and moisture get to it, and corrosion means resistance, heat, and eventually a connection that fails right when you need it. The tin coating on every strand slows that down and keeps the cable conducting cleanly for years. It's the difference between a run you install once and one you're back fixing next season.

You get a 25-foot spool. This is bulk cable, supplied without terminals, so you cut exactly the length your install calls for and crimp on the lugs that fit your posts and studs. No wasted cable, no fighting a pre-made length that's too short or too long. If you rig your own boat, that's how you want to buy heavy cable.

The jacket is black. Black is the standard color for negative and ground runs, so keeping your negatives black and your positives red keeps the whole system readable for the next person who opens the panel, including future you. Good color discipline pays off when you're troubleshooting at the dock.

This cable is UL listed and ABYC certified, so it meets the standards marine electrical work is held to. If you're doing a battery upgrade, adding a second bank, wiring in a big inverter, or just replacing tired old cable that's gone green at the ends, this is the gauge and the quality you want. Crimp it clean, heat-shrink the ends, and it'll carry current quietly for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

What gauge is this cable?

It's 2 AWG (2 gauge), a heavy conductor sized for high-amperage battery and DC power runs like windlasses, inverters, and main power feeds.

Is the copper tinned?

Yes. Every strand is tinned copper, which resists the corrosion that bare copper suffers in salt air and moisture, keeping the connection clean over the long haul.

Does it come with terminals or lugs?

No. This is bulk cable supplied without terminals. You cut it to length and crimp on the lugs that fit your battery posts and studs.

How much cable is on the spool?

You get a 25-foot spool.

Is it marine rated?

Yes. The cable is UL listed and ABYC certified, so it meets the standards marine electrical work is held to.

Why is it black? Can I use it for a positive run?

Black is the conventional color for negative and ground runs, which is why Sea-Dog lists it as the negative cable. The copper itself is the same either way, but keeping negatives black and positives red keeps your system easy to read and troubleshoot.
