Sea-Dog's 10/2 AWG duplex is the wire you reach for when you've got a two-wire DC circuit that needs to last. Two 10-gauge tinned copper conductors, one red and one yellow, run side by side inside a flat PVC jacket. It's built for the boat, not the garage, and you'll feel the difference the first time you pull a run through a cramped chase.

Here's what tinned copper buys you. Every strand is coated in tin, so salt air and bilge moisture can't eat the copper the way they do with bare automotive wire. We've opened up harnesses on boats that are ten years old and found the tinned runs still bright while the untinned stuff next to them had gone green and brittle. On the water, that's the whole ballgame. Corroded conductors mean voltage drop, warm connections, and gear that acts flaky for no obvious reason.

The conductors are finely stranded, not solid, and that's deliberate. A boat is always working, flexing and vibrating underway, so stranded wire moves with it instead of fatiguing and cracking the way solid wire eventually does. It also makes the wire far easier to route around corners and terminate cleanly. Solid wire has its place in a house, but a boat is a moving, pounding thing, and finely stranded conductors are the only sensible choice out there.

A word on why any of this is worth paying for. Marine-grade wire costs more than the spool of automotive wire at the hardware store, and every season we watch boaters learn the hard way why.
