Scanstrut SC-SL-01 Aluminum 8-Degree Wedge Mount for Starlink — Product description

The Scanstrut SC-SL-01 is a marine-grade aluminum wedge mount built for the Starlink Flat High Performance antenna. The 8-degree base angles the flat panel so water sheds and the dish keeps a clean view of the sky, while an integrated cable seal and mounting gasket keep the weather out of your deck. Black finished, SCA certified, ready for the salt.

If you've added Starlink to your boat, you already know the Flat High Performance dish wasn't really made to bolt straight onto a deck. That's where the Scanstrut SC-SL-01 comes in. It's a purpose-built aluminum wedge mount that gives the antenna a solid, sealed home on your deck or hardtop, angled the way it needs to be and sealed the way a boat needs it to be. We've rigged plenty of satcom and antenna gear over the years, and the difference between a mount that's built for the water and one that isn't shows up fast once the spray starts flying.

The heart of it is the 8-degree wedge base. The Starlink flat panel sits nearly horizontal on its own, and on a boat that's a problem. Rain and spray pool on a dead-flat panel, and a slight tilt helps the dish hold a clean line to the sky as the hull moves around. The wedge sets that angle for you so water sheds off the panel instead of sitting on it. On most decks and hardtops that 8 degrees is plenty. If you're mounting on a cambered flybridge that already has some crown built into it, take a good look before you drill, because you may want a little extra shim to get the panel sitting true.

Everything about the base is built for salt. It's machined from aluminum and finished in black, so it stays low-key up on the hardtop and shrugs off UV and salt air. Scanstrut runs these through their SCA certification, which is their marine environmental standard covering the sealing and corrosion side of the design. Down at the deck, an integrated cable seal routes the Starlink cable through the base and keeps water from tracking down the wire and into your headliner. A mounting gasket sits between the base and your deck so the whole footprint stays watertight once it's bolted down.

Installation is straightforward if you've run deck hardware before. The base gives you a clean bolt pattern, and the overall footprint is 16.78 inches long by 13.39 inches wide, so measure your spot first. It stands 3.72 inches tall at the back of the wedge. On a cored deck, seal your fastener holes properly and back the mount with a plate or large washers underneath. For anything that sees real weather, we'd through-bolt it rather than run screws into the deck. A wedge this size catches wind and sea, and in a following sea at 25 knots you want fasteners you can trust, not screws that'll work loose over a season.

One thing worth calling out if your deck or hardtop is aluminum or steel. Put isolation washers between the mount and the deck. Aluminum against aluminum, or aluminum against steel, with saltwater in the mix is exactly the recipe for galvanic corrosion, and you don't want that setting up under the base six months down the road. A little dielectric grease inside the cable seal doesn't hurt either. On a fiberglass deck you don't have the galvanic worry, just seal it well and you're set.

Keep the cable happy where it exits the base. The Starlink High Performance cable doesn't love a hard kink, so give it a gentle bend radius coming out of the seal, a few inches of room rather than a tight corner right at the exit. Do that and you'll keep the signal solid and the connector strain-free.

This is the mount for boaters who want their Starlink Flat High Performance dish set once, set right, and left alone. It fits that specific antenna, so it's not the piece for the older round dish or the standard flat residential unit. And it's the mount only, the antenna and cable come from Starlink. If your dish is the Flat High Performance and you want it up on the hardtop looking like it belongs there, this is what gets you there.

Frequently asked questions

Which antenna does this mount fit?

It's built specifically for the Starlink Flat High Performance antenna. It won't fit the older round Starlink dish or the standard flat residential unit.

What is the 8-degree wedge for?

The Starlink flat panel sits nearly horizontal on its own, which lets water pool on it. The 8-degree wedge tilts the panel so rain and spray shed off and the dish keeps a clean line to the sky as the boat moves.

Does it come with the antenna and cable?

No. This is the mount only. The Starlink Flat High Performance antenna and its cable come from Starlink separately.

Is it made for saltwater?

Yes. It's machined aluminum with a black finish, SCA certified to Scanstrut's marine environmental standard, and it uses an integrated cable seal plus a mounting gasket to keep water out.

How does the cable route through the mount?

An integrated cable seal in the base passes the Starlink cable through and keeps water from tracking down the wire into the deck. Give the cable a gentle bend where it exits so you don't kink it.

Can I install it on an aluminum or steel deck?

You can, but add isolation washers between the mount and the deck. Aluminum against aluminum or steel in saltwater invites galvanic corrosion, so isolate the two metals and seal the fasteners well.

Should I screw it down or through-bolt it?

For anything that sees real weather we'd through-bolt it and back it with a plate or large washers. A wedge this size catches wind and sea, and screws can work loose in a heavy following sea.

What are the overall dimensions?

The base measures 16.78 inches long by 13.39 inches wide and stands 3.72 inches tall at the back of the wedge. Measure your mounting spot and check for hatch or arch clearance before you drill.
