A word on the mounting, because it matters. The StarPort screw-mount is only as strong as what it screws into. Drywall anchors won't cut it. A loaded kayak swinging on a wall hang will pull toggles right out of the sheetrock. Find the studs, or throw up a length of 2x4 backing across two studs and mount to that. Do it once, do it right, and it'll hold for years. If you're mounting to a boat's gelcoat or fiberglass instead, back the screws with a plate so the fastener load doesn't crack the surface.

The adjustment buckles let you set the sling width to the hull you're hanging. Narrow sea kayak, wide fishing SUP, they all sit in the same cradle once you dial the strap in. One tip from the field: cinch the buckle, then double the tail back through the cam. Wet nylon can creep a little under load, and that extra pass locks it in place. Really wide boards sit close to the wall, so leave yourself a couple inches of spacing when you set your StarPort positions.

Storing a hull flat on the ground or leaned on its edge is how boards warp and hulls develop soft spots. Weight sitting on one point for months does damage you won't notice until you're back on the water and something feels off. Hanging the hull in a wide sling spreads the load across the strap and takes the pressure off any single spot. That's the real reason to get these things off the floor, well beyond just reclaiming the space.

Two slings handle most kayaks, SUPs, and surfboards with room to spare. For a longer canoe, say 14 feet and up, we'd add a third support near the middle so the hull isn't carrying its whole weight on just two points. Nylon and UV don't love each other long term, and a black strap baking in summer sun will age faster than one in a shaded garage.
