RAILBLAZA Illuminate 360 White LED Nav Light (Light Only)

The RAILBLAZA Illuminate 360 is a portable all-round white LED light that solves a problem every boater knows. You need a proper anchor light or all-round white light, and you don't want to run new wiring to get one. This is the light-only version, so it drops straight into any RAILBLAZA mount you already have on the boat and runs off a single AA cell. No fuse panel, no crimping, no drilling a new hole for a fixed base.

It puts out a clean white LED glow that's visible up to 2 nm in clear conditions, and it carries US Coast Guard approval as an all-round white light. That makes it a real navigation light, not a novelty lamp. For a lot of tenders, dinghies, kayaks, and small powerboats under about 26 feet, this is exactly the all-round or anchor light the rules call for when you're sitting at anchor after dark or moving in reduced visibility.

Three operating modes cover most situations. High gives you the brightest output when you want to be seen. Medium is what most folks leave on for a full night at anchor, and it's the mode that stretches battery life the furthest. Blinking is there when you want an attention-getting signal, though it's the hungriest on cells and tends to run down a set in about a day of continuous use. Depending on the mode and the battery you load, you'll get anywhere from 25 hours to well over 200 hours on a single AA. We'd suggest keeping a spare cell in the console dry box so you're never caught short.

The housing is UV stabilized fiberglass reinforced plastic in black, built to sit out in the sun season after season without going chalky. It's rated IP67, so it shrugs off dust and takes brief immersion without flooding. The whole light is compact, 2.36 inches across and 5 inches tall in a simple conical shape, so it stows in a hatch or a glovebox when you're not using it.

Here's where the modular part pays off. Because this is the light-only head, it clicks into the RAILBLAZA StarPort, SidePort, RIBPort, and Rail Mount bases. Put a StarPort on the tender and another on the main boat, and you can carry one light between them in seconds. That's genuinely useful if you row a dinghy out to a mooring and want a legal light on it, then bring the same light back aboard the big boat. The mount is sold separately for this version, so if you're starting from scratch, plan on grabbing the base that fits where you want to run it.

A few things we've learned from boaters running these. On a RIB or an inflatable that pounds in a chop, add a short lanyard or a zip tie as backup so a hard slam can't bounce the light out of the mount. In salt air, hit the switch and the battery contacts with a little dielectric grease at install. It keeps the switch working crisp through the season instead of getting gummy. And snug the light into the mount firmly, but don't gorilla it down on a thin aluminum rail base, since over-tightening is the main way people crack a plastic mounting point.

What it's not. This isn't a masthead light for a sailboat, and it's too short to serve as a spreader or mizzen light on a larger rig. It's also a battery light, not a hardwired fixture, so it's not the answer if you specifically want something wired to the boat's 12-volt system and switched at the helm. For its intended job, a portable, legal, grab-and-go all-round white light on a small boat, it's hard to beat for the money.
