Because it stands your accessory up higher, a longer extender puts more load on the base, and you'll feel a touch more vibration at planing speed than you would with a shorter standoff or a direct mount. That's just physics. It's rarely a problem for rod holders or cup holders, but if you're running an action camera on a fast planing hull, mount it down solid and don't over-tighten.
