What makes the A-series handy is that one buoy does two jobs. Hang it over the side and it's a fender, cushioning your hull against a dock, a piling, or another boat during a raft-up. It reads clean against most topsides and it's simple to spot on the water.

Care is easy. Rinse the salt off, and check the inflation at the start of each season since valves can loosen over a winter of storage. White PVC looks sharp but shows scuffs and can stiffen with years of hard UV, so if you trailer and store outside, a little shade or a cover goes a long way. A mild soap and water wipe pulls off most dock grime.

One more practical note on the valve. Because the A-1 inflates rather than coming as solid foam, you get to dial the pressure to the job. Firmer for hard fixed docks and pilings, a little softer when you're nestling against another boat's gelcoat. Keep a pump aboard and you can top it off in seconds. If you ever notice it going soft between uses, it's usually just the valve needing a firm reseat, not the buoy giving up.

Who's it for? Owners of runabouts, center consoles, cuddies, and small cruisers in that 15-to-30-foot band who want one buoy they can use as a fender at the dock and a mooring marker on the hook. If you run a heavier displacement boat or moor in exposed water, look further up the A-series for a bigger buoy. But for everyday protection and marking on a trailerable or slip-kept boat, the A-1 earns its spot in the locker.
