Performance Metals Mercruiser Bravo 2/3 Complete Anode Kit - Aluminum — Product description

Keep galvanic corrosion off your Bravo 2 or Bravo 3 sterndrive with this complete Performance Metals anode kit. Navalloy aluminum anodes, built to military spec, protect in salt, brackish, and fresh water alike, and the patented red spot wear indicator tells you exactly when to swap them. Everything you need for the whole drive in one box.

If you run a Bravo 2 or Bravo 3 sterndrive, this is the anode kit that keeps galvanic corrosion off your gear instead of your gearcase. Performance Metals built this complete set for the 2003-and-earlier Bravo drives, and it drops in with all the anodes and hardware you need to do the whole drive in one go. No hunting for individual pieces, no mismatched fasteners.

What makes these different is the alloy. Performance Metals uses Navalloy, an aluminum anode built to military spec MIL-DTL 24779. It's not plain aluminum. There's about 5% zinc and a trace of indium in there, and that indium is the trick, it keeps an oxide layer from forming and shutting the anode down. That means the metal stays active and keeps protecting your drive whether you're in salt, brackish, or fresh water. One kit, every water type. If you trailer between a freshwater lake and a saltwater ramp, that matters.

Aluminum also gives you more protection per pound than zinc and tends to last longer, so you're not pulling the boat as often to swap anodes. And when it is time, you'll know. Every anode in this kit carries the patented red spot wear indicator. When the red shows through, the anode has done its job and it's time to replace it. No guessing, no calipers.

The kit is a direct fit for Bravo 2 and Bravo 3 outdrives from 2003 and earlier and replaces the factory anode kit, so you're not changing anything about how the drive left the plant. It's the complete package: the anodes for the drive plus the mounting hardware. Install is straightforward with hand tools. We'd plan on doing it every season if you keep the boat in saltwater, or checking the red indicators a couple times a year if you're in fresh.

Anodes are cheap insurance. A gearcase isn't. If your current anodes are more than half gone or the red is showing, don't wait, get them swapped.

Key Features

  • Navalloy aluminum alloy built to military spec MIL-DTL 24779: protects in salt, brackish, and fresh water alike
  • Patented red spot wear indicator: shows through when the anode is spent so you know exactly when to replace it
  • About 5% zinc plus a trace of indium: stops the oxide layer that shuts plain aluminum anodes down, keeping the anode active longer
  • Complete kit: includes anodes 00046A (x1), 00047A (x2), and 00049A (x1) plus mounting hardware
  • Direct fit for Bravo 2 and Bravo 3 outdrives (2003 and earlier): replaces the factory anode kit with no modifications
  • Aluminum alloy delivers more protection per pound and longer service life than zinc, so fewer haul-outs to swap anodes

Frequently asked questions

Will this kit work in fresh water?

Yes. Performance Metals Navalloy is an aluminum alloy designed for all water types, salt, brackish, and fresh. Plain zinc anodes go passive and stop protecting in fresh water, but the trace of indium in this alloy keeps it active. It's a genuine all-water anode.

How do I know when to replace the anodes?

Every anode in the kit has a patented red spot wear indicator. When the red shows through the surface, the anode is used up and it's time to replace it. If you keep the boat in salt water, plan on checking at least every season.

Which drives does this fit?

It's a complete kit for Bravo 2 and Bravo 3 sterndrives from 2003 and earlier. It includes all the anodes and hardware for the drive, so you can do the whole outdrive in one sitting.

What comes in the kit?

You get the full set of drive anodes, part numbers 00046A (one), 00047A (two), and 00049A (one), plus the mounting hardware. It replaces the factory anode kit as a complete package.

Why aluminum instead of zinc?

Aluminum alloy gives you more protection per pound and typically lasts longer than zinc, and it keeps working in fresh water where zinc quits. For a boat that sees more than one water type, aluminum is the safer all-around choice.

What is Navalloy?

Navalloy is the Performance Metals aluminum anode alloy, manufactured to military specification MIL-DTL 24779. It contains about 5% zinc and a trace of indium, which prevents the oxide buildup that would otherwise shut a plain aluminum anode down.
