The OceanLED X4 X-Series is a surface-mount underwater light built for small and medium fishing and cruising boats. It's the entry point into OceanLED's X-Series, and it earns its spot by keeping things simple. One compact fixture, a three meter cable, and a clean 1,150 fixture lumens of Midnight Blue light glowing off the back of the boat. No massive cutout, no drama. If you've wanted underwater lighting but didn't want to turn your weekend into a fiberglass project, this is the one to look at.

The number that matters here is 1,150 fixture lumens. Each LED throws a 60 degree circular beam, and OceanLED focuses that beam with dedicated optics so the light actually penetrates the water instead of scattering at the surface. Power draw is light: 0.8 amps at 12 volts, or 0.4 amps at 24 volts, and the internal driver handles either input voltage without a separate box to mount. You can wire it into a 12 or 24 volt system as is.

OceanLED also built in a diagnostic indicator so you're not left guessing if something's wrong. The X-Series carries a small orange diagnostic LED that gives you a quick visual status check on the fixture. It's a small touch, but on a light that lives underwater where you can't easily get eyes on it, knowing it's healthy at a glance is worth having.

Install is about as friendly as underwater lighting gets. The X4 is a surface-mount fixture, so it sits against the hull below the waterline rather than requiring a large through-hull bore. The three meter cable gives you room to route back to a switch and a fused circuit. A quick word from experience: run it on its own fused circuit, seal every connection well, and pack the connector with dielectric grease before you close it up. Underwater lights live in a harsh spot, and a few extra minutes on the wiring saves you a headache a couple seasons down the road. On thin fiberglass, add a backing plate so you're not torquing the fasteners straight into the laminate.

Cruisers who like the look at the dock. And who's it not for? Tiny tenders and jon boats, where a single X4 is honestly more light than you need.
