When the product goes clear and the marks are gone, wipe the residue with a clean microfiber and inspect in good light before you move on. Rushing the wipe-down is how haze gets missed. Take the extra thirty seconds to check your work under sun or a bright light, and you'll catch anything the compound left behind before it's buried under wax.

A word on where it doesn't belong. This is a cutting compound, not a one-and-done cleaner wax. It won't leave protection behind, so it's not the last step. It's also more compound than a light swirl or a bit of water spotting calls for. If all you've got is minor marring, a finishing polish will get there with less correction and less material removed. Use the cut where the cut is needed.
