Maretron CG1-30 Micro NMEA 2000 Bulk Cable, 30 Meter

The Maretron CG1-30 is a 30 meter run of Micro bulk cable, the kind you reach for when you're building an NMEA 2000 network to fit your boat instead of forcing your boat to fit a box of pre-made cables. It's continuous gray PVC, rated at 6 amperes, and it carries the approvals that matter out there: NMEA 2000 approved, UL Listed, CSA Certified, and IEC-61162-3. You cut it to the exact length you need, add field-attachable Micro connectors, and you've got a backbone or a drop that runs where you want it to.

Here's the honest part. This is bulk cable, so the connectors don't come in the box. You buy the field-attachable Micro connectors separately and terminate the ends yourself. That's the whole point of buying it this way. On a real install, pre-made cables leave you with coils of slack tucked behind the helm or a run that's three feet too short. With 30 meters of continuous cable, you measure the actual path, cut once, and finish clean.

Thirty meters is a lot of cable. On a 35 to 45 foot sailboat it's enough to run a full backbone from the nav station forward to the mast base and back to the cockpit, with room to spare for the drops. Keep the NMEA 2000 rules in mind while you plan: stay under the network's total backbone limit, put a T-connector at every device drop, and cap both ends of the backbone with a terminating resistor. A backbone with only one terminator, or none at all, throws bus errors and drops devices offline at random. The gray PVC jacket handles life below deck well. It shrugs off bilge moisture and the general damp that lives down there. What it doesn't love is abrasion. Run it against a sharp bulkhead edge or zip-tie it hard against a vibrating engine mount and the jacket will wear through eventually. Route it through conduit or split loom where it crosses anything sharp, and add a chafe guard anywhere it passes a bulkhead. A few minutes of care here saves a mystery fault two seasons down the line.

When you terminate the field-attachable connectors, take your time. Most of the failures people report on these networks trace back to the connectors, not the wire. A pin that didn't seat fully, an over-tightened gland, or a fitting that went together dry. Seat every pin, snug the gland firmly without cranking on it, and put a dab of dielectric grease on the contacts before you close it up. The grease keeps corrosion out of the connection at deck glands and anywhere salt air can reach. Do it once, do it right, and the connection stays quiet for years.

Who's this for? Anyone wiring a mid-size to large boat who wants a tidy, purpose-length NMEA 2000 network. Sailboats with long backbone runs, center consoles with electronics spread bow to stern, trawlers and cruisers running a full instrument suite. If your network is small and the runs are short, a shorter length in this same family makes more sense, so don't overbuy. But when you genuinely need the reach, 30 meters of continuous cable beats splicing shorter pieces together every time.

One more note. This is standard Micro-style NMEA 2000 cable, so it works with the Micro T-connectors, terminators, and field-attachable fittings in the same family. It isn't the thicker Mid backbone cable, and it isn't a pre-terminated drop. Match it with Micro components and Micro connectors and everything lands where it should.
