JL Audio built the M6 line for the kind of boat where the audio is expected to keep up with everything else on board. The M6-770X is the 7.7-inch coaxial in that family, and this version pairs a white trim ring with the fine-mesh White LUXe grille. It's a discreet look. The grille sits nearly flush, protruding just 0.38 inches into the cabin, so it blends into a headliner or a nice fiberglass panel instead of shouting for attention.

Here's why the oversized 7.7-inch cone matters. A bigger cone moves more air for the same watts, so you get more real output per amp of power. Combine that efficiency with long excursion and honest power handling, and you've got a speaker that stays clean when you're running a center console at speed with the wind and engine noise fighting you. It's rated at 91.0 dB efficiency at 1 watt, 1 meter, and it'll take 100 watts RMS continuous.

The highs come off a 1-inch pure silk dome tweeter that JL specially treats to survive the salt, sun, and spray. That treatment is the whole point on an open boat. A raw tweeter dome doesn't last a season out there. This one stays articulate up at the top of the volume knob, which is where a lot of cheaper marine speakers turn harsh. There's also an automatic tweeter protection circuit built in, so an over-enthusiastic afternoon at full tilt is less likely to cook the tweeter.

Inside the woofer chassis sits a multi-order, true 2-way passive crossover. Tucking it inside the frame keeps it shielded from vibration and corrosion, which are the two things that kill crossovers on a boat. You don't have to find a dry spot to mount a separate crossover box, and there's nothing extra to corrode behind a panel.

Now, about power. These will technically run on as little as 40 watts per channel, but that's not where they shine. JL recommends 40 to 200 watts of clean continuous power per channel, and honestly, the more clean power you feed them the better they sound. Wiring them straight off a head unit's internal amp works, but you'll clip the dynamics and you'll hear it distort as you push the volume. If you can, run them off a dedicated amp like a JL Audio MVi or an M-series amplifier. That's the difference between background music and a system you actually want to crank.

Installation is straightforward if you respect the cutout. The mounting hole is 7.50 inches and you need 4.26 inches of mounting depth behind the panel, so check your clearance before you cut. Use the JL cutout template exactly. A 6.5-inch hole is too small for this flange, and forcing it risks cracking gelcoat around the opening. On thinner fiberglass panels, back up the mount with a proper backing plate. The magnet on a speaker this size has some real weight to it. And heat-shrink your wire terminals. Salt loves an open connection, and a sealed terminal is the single easiest thing you can do to make these last.

These are made in JL Audio's Miramar, Florida factory using global components, and they carry a 2-year USA limited warranty from the original date of purchase. One more thing worth saying plainly: this is a single speaker. If you're doing a pair on the bow or a full four-speaker layout, order the count you need. A lot of folks assume marine speakers come in twos, and the M6-770X is sold individually.
