The JBL MS65B is a pair of 6.5-inch coaxial marine speakers from the JBL Club Series, and they're a straightforward upgrade for just about any boat that came with tinny factory speakers. Coaxial means the tweeter sits right in the center of the woofer, so you get full-range sound out of a single cutout. No separate tweeter to mount, no crossover box to hide. Drop them in, wire them up, and you're listening.

What makes these worth the money out on the water is the marinization. JBL builds the MS65B to live outdoors. The basket is a one-piece UV-resistant cast polymer, so it won't crack or chalk out the way a cheap plastic frame does after a couple of Florida summers. The motor structure and magnet are sealed, the surrounds are rubber, and the whole speaker is engineered to shrug off sun, salt spray, and the occasional washdown. These aren't car speakers with a marine sticker slapped on them.

Sound-wise, the polypropylene cone moves enough air to give you honest bass for a 6.5-inch driver, and the balanced dome tweeter keeps the highs smooth instead of harsh. At 225W they've got plenty of headroom. That said, be realistic about power. If you run them off a bare-bones gauge-hole head unit, they'll play fine at a conversational level but they'll start to feel underdriven when you crank it. These fit well in the usual spots: center console dashes, leaning post pods, T-top pods, and gunwale panels on boats in the 22 to 26 foot range. Open bow riders will get sound but not a ton of low end. That's physics, not a knock on the speaker. If you want thump up front, you'd add a sub. Before you cut, check your mounting depth. A 6.5-inch coaxial needs real clearance behind the baffle, and shallow console pockets sometimes need a shim or a spacer ring to clear the magnet. Measure first.

A few install tips from folks who've put a lot of these in. Pre-drill your screw holes, especially in gelcoat, and use the stainless hardware in the box so nothing rusts on you. A stainless backing plate or fender washer behind thin fiberglass keeps the screws from stripping out. Hit the speaker terminals with a little dielectric grease before you land the wires. It's cheap insurance against corrosion, and saltwater finds bare copper fast. And if you're mounting into an aluminum T-top pod, a wrap of foam tape around the frame kills any rattle before it starts.

If you're doing a full audio refresh, these make a solid backbone for a two-zone system. Run a pair in the cockpit and another pair on the bow, and you've got even coverage the length of the boat without any one speaker having to work too hard. Because they're all the same driver, the tone stays consistent from helm to bow, which matters more than most people think when you're moving around the boat with music playing.
