This is the Premium tier of LakeMaster VX, so you're getting the upgraded mapping experience. VX Technology brings customizable color palettes to the table, and that sounds minor until you're staring at a washed-out screen in bright afternoon sun. Being able to set the contour colors to the exact contrast your eyes want makes structure jump off the display. You can tune the map to emphasize what matters and quiet down what doesn't.

Coverage is all Minnesota, and it goes deep. That includes the entire Lake of the Woods, both the U.S. and Canadian waters, which matters a lot if you run north for walleye. Big water, complicated structure, and a lot of border to keep straight. Having it charted in detail on the same card as your home lake means you're not swapping cards or guessing when the trip gets ambitious.

The feature set is where the Premium card earns its keep. Depth Highlight lets you pick a depth range and light it up in color across the whole map, so if the fish are stacked in 18 to 22 feet, you can see every stretch of the lake that holds that band. Shallow Water Highlight does the same thing for the skinny stuff, adjustable anywhere from 0 to 60 feet, which is gold when you're easing into spawning bays or trying to stay off the rocks. Water Level Offset keeps your contour lines honest when the lake is up or down from normal pool, so a 10-foot line still means 10 feet under your boat.

You also get 2D Shaded Relief for a clearer sense of how the bottom rolls and drops, Aerial Imagery so you can line up with real shoreline landmarks, and Chart Presets that let you save a couple of view setups and flip between them without digging through menus. On select HD lakes, SmartStrike takes your conditions, season, time of day, and water temp, and points you at the spots most likely to hold fish. It's not magic, but it's a smart place to start on a lake you've never seen.

Compatibility is straightforward. This card works with HELIX G3 and G3N and newer, all SOLIX units, all APEX units, and all XPLORE units. One thing to check before your first trip: your unit needs to be running current basemap software for the VX card to display everything correctly. It's a free update from Humminbird, and it's worth doing at the dock the night before, not at the landing at 5 a.m. Give yourself the time.

It all ties into the One-Boat Network too, so your Humminbird electronics stay on the same page and share the mapping you're running.
