Humminbird LakeMaster VX Premium Great Plains Map Card — Product description

The Humminbird LakeMaster VX Premium Great Plains card loads your Humminbird unit with high-definition lake charts across eleven plains states. VX Premium mapping adds 2D Shaded Relief, aerial imagery, Water Level Offset, and SmartStrike, so you read structure and find fish faster on water you've never launched on.

The Humminbird LakeMaster VX Premium Great Plains card turns your Humminbird unit into a serious lake-fishing tool for plains water. It's a microSD map card loaded with high-definition charts covering lakes and reservoirs across Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Drop it in the card slot, power up, and you're reading structure like you've fished that water for years.

The whole point of the VX chart engine is detail you can actually use on the water. High-definition contours show you where the bottom rolls, breaks, and drops off. The charts are built to the same high-definition standard as the rest of the LakeMaster VX line, so the detail holds up whether you're graphing a main-lake hump in 30 feet or picking apart a shallow spawning flat. And the Premium tier layers on the extras that turn a map into a game plan. You get 2D Shaded Relief, which shades the bottom so ledges, humps, and channel swings jump right off the screen. There's aerial imagery too, so you can line up a backwater entrance or a riprap bank before you ever idle in.

Water Level Offset is the feature that really earns its keep on plains reservoirs. These lakes swing hard. A flood-control reservoir can be up several feet in spring and drawn way down by late summer. Water Level Offset lets you dial the chart to today's pool level, so your contours and shorelines match what's actually under the hull. That means the twelve-foot line really is twelve feet, not whatever it read the day the lake got surveyed. On fluctuating water, that's the difference between fishing the right break and guessing.

Shallow Water Highlight paints skinny water in red across an adjustable range from zero to 60 feet. Set it to your boat's comfort zone and the shallows light up before your lower unit finds them the hard way. It's handy when you're easing into an unfamiliar creek arm or working a flat you've never run. The customizable color palettes let you build a look that reads clean whether you're squinting into bright midday sun or fishing low light at dawn. A lot of anglers run a high-contrast palette to pick out fish-holding depth bands in a hurry.

On select HD lakes, SmartStrike does some of the homework for you. Feed it the season, the time of day, and the conditions, and it highlights the water where fish are most likely holding. It's not magic, and it won't set the hook for you. But on a big unfamiliar reservoir it can narrow a thousand acres down to a handful of spots worth your first hour on the trolling motor.

Where a card like this really shines is prospecting new water. Say you draw a plains reservoir you've never launched on. Instead of burning half a day idling to learn the lake, you pull up the high-def contours, flip on 2D Shaded Relief, and the main-lake points, submerged roadbeds, and creek channels are right there. Mark a few waypoints on the likely breaks, set your Shallow Water Highlight, and you're fishing productive water inside the first hour instead of the third.

Compatibility is straightforward. This card works with Humminbird HELIX G3 and G3N units and newer, every SOLIX, and every APEX. If your unit is GPS-equipped and in that family, you're set. It ships on a microSD, so it seats in the standard card slot, no adapters or extra hardware to buy. One card, one region, and it stays right in the slot.

So who's this for? If you fish the plains and reservoirs across those states, this is the card that makes the Humminbird you already own a whole lot smarter. If your home water sits outside that footprint, grab the region card that covers it instead. And if you're running an older Humminbird from before the HELIX G3 generation, check your model against the compatibility list before you order. Otherwise, slide it in and go find them.

Frequently asked questions

Which states does the Great Plains card cover?

It carries high-definition lake and reservoir charts across Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. If your home water sits outside that footprint, grab the region card that covers it instead.

Which Humminbird units is it compatible with?

It works with GPS-equipped Humminbird HELIX G3 and G3N units and newer, all SOLIX units, and all APEX units. If you're running an older Humminbird from before the HELIX G3 generation, check your model against the compatibility list before you order.

What's the difference between VX and VX Premium?

Both use the VX chart engine with high-definition contours and customizable color palettes. The Premium card adds 2D Shaded Relief, aerial imagery, and SmartStrike on select HD lakes, so you get more ways to read structure and pattern fish on unfamiliar water.

What is Water Level Offset and why does it matter?

It lets you dial the chart to the lake's actual pool level so contours and shorelines match what's under your hull. On plains reservoirs that rise and fall several feet through the season, that keeps your depth lines honest instead of reading whatever the lake was the day it got surveyed.

What does Shallow Water Highlight do?

It shades shallow water in red across an adjustable range from zero to 60 feet. Set it to your boat's comfort zone and the skinny water lights up on the chart before your lower unit finds it the hard way.

What is SmartStrike?

On select HD lakes, SmartStrike takes the season, time of day, and conditions and highlights the water where fish are most likely holding. It's a starting-point tool that narrows a big lake down to a handful of areas worth checking first.

Is it a microSD or a full-size SD card?

The card ships on a microSD, which seats in the standard card slot on compatible HELIX, SOLIX, and APEX units. No adapter or extra hardware is needed.

Do I need a GPS-equipped unit to use it?

Yes. The compatible HELIX G3/G3N and newer, SOLIX, and APEX units are GPS-equipped, which is what lets the card place your boat on the chart and run features like Water Level Offset and SmartStrike.
