The LakeMaster VX Dakotas/Nebraska card loads high-definition lake maps straight onto your HELIX, SOLIX, or APEX unit, so the water under your boat finally makes sense.

VX is the newest generation of Humminbird's LakeMaster mapping. What you get is cleaner map performance and customizable color palettes, so you can set the chart up to read the way your eyes like it. Bright and high-contrast for a sunny afternoon, or toned down so it doesn't blind you at first light. The contours are tight and detailed on the covered lakes, which is what actually matters when you're trying to sit on a breakline in 18 feet of water.

The features that earn their keep start with Depth Highlight. It lets you paint a specific depth range across the whole map, so if the fish are stacked on the 22 to 26 foot shelf, you can see every spot on the lake that holds that range at a glance. Shallow Water Highlight shades everything from 0 to 60 feet in red, which is a fast way to stay off the rocks when you're running an unfamiliar arm of the reservoir. Water Level Offset is the one a lot of Midwest anglers don't know they need. Our reservoirs swing hard through the season, and this lets you dial the contours and shorelines to the actual pool level so your map matches what the boat is floating on.

On the select HD lakes, you also get SmartStrike. You punch in the season, time of day, water temperature, and the species you're after, and the card highlights the water where those fish are most likely to be biting right now. It's not magic, but it's a smart starting point on a big unfamiliar body of water where you'd otherwise burn half the morning just idling around looking.

Chart Presets let you save your favorite view setups and flip between them with a couple of taps, so your ice setup, your open-water trolling setup, and your shallow-water setup are all one button away. And if you're running One-Boat Network, the card feeds depth-contour data to a compatible trolling motor so it can follow a contour hands-free while you fish.

Compatibility is the thing to check before you buy. This card works with HELIX G3 and G3N and anything newer, all SOLIX units, and all APEX units. If you've got an older HELIX G1 or G2, it won't read this card, so double-check your model first. It ships on an SD card that drops right into the map slot on your unit. No wiring, no install, just slide it in and it's ready.

For the ice crowd, this card pairs naturally with a GPS ice setup. Having accurate contours under the auger means you can drill on the actual edge instead of guessing, and the Depth Highlight trick works just as well standing on two feet of ice as it does from the boat. Plenty of Dakota anglers run the same card year round for exactly that reason.

One honest note. This is the standard VX version covering the Dakotas and Nebraska, not the VX Premium multi-region card. If you only fish this part of the country, the standard card is all you need and it'll save you money. Because it's mapping software, the sealed package can't be returned once it's opened, so make sure your unit is on the compatible list before you break the seal.
