The Hella Marine X-TREME Spotlight XT-3A Amber is a matched pair of compact LED cube lights built to throw a tight, focused beam a long way down the water. Each cube packs 28 LEDs into a 3.3 by 3.58 inch housing and pushes 5700 lumens on a true spot pattern. If you run at night, dock in unlit marinas, or want extra reach off the bow or hardtop, this is the kind of light that earns its spot on the boat.

The amber lens is the reason a lot of boaters go this route. Amber light cuts through fog, mist, and spray far better than white, and it kicks back less glare when the air is thick. It also draws fewer bugs when you're sitting at anchor with the lights on. The tradeoff is range in clear conditions, where amber gives up a little distance to a clear lens. So think about where you actually run. For coastal fog, backwater fishing, and messy weather, amber is the smart call.

Power is flexible. Each light auto-senses anywhere from 12 to 24 volts DC, so it drops straight onto a 12V bass boat or a 24V cruiser without any changes. Just plan your wiring. Each cube pulls 60 watts, so a set of two draws right around 10 amps total. On a 24V system that's nothing. On a single 12V battery with an older panel, that's enough to matter, and we'd run the pair on their own switched circuit with a properly sized breaker and heavier gauge wire than you think you need. The included harness is on the short side for a tall hardtop or flybridge, so budget for an extension if you're mounting up high.

There's a reason these hold up. LED bulbs run cool and take a beating from vibration far better than old halogen or HID spotlights, and with 28 diodes per cube there's no filament to shake loose when you're pounding across a chop. The sealed polycarbonate lens shrugs off UV and spray, and the whole unit is built to the same fit-and-forget standard as the rest of the Hella Marine lighting line. You mount it once and stop thinking about it.

The housing is black aluminum with an upright mount, and it's made to live outside in salt air. That said, saltwater is saltwater. Hit the mounting feet and any bare hardware with dielectric grease at install and you'll keep corrosion off the contact points for the long haul. The upright bracket bolts to a flat surface easily. On an angled T-top or hardtop edge you may want a shim or wedge under the foot to bring the beam back to level so you're not lighting up the sky or the deck.

Each set ships with two smoked stone shield covers that snap over the lens to protect the polycarbonate from rock chips and debris when you're trailering or running rough water. Plenty of boaters leave them on full time for the protection. Some pull them for maximum output when they want every lumen. Your call. You also get two sets of mounting hardware and brackets plus mounting instructions, so everything you need to get both lights on the boat is in the box.

Bottom line, this is a focused spot light, not a wide flood. The beam is tight and reaches out, which is exactly what you want for spotting channel markers, crab pots, a mooring ball, or the person on the bow line at a dark dock. It's less useful as a broad work light right around the cockpit. Rig a pair of these up high, aim them where you're headed, and you've got serious reach when the sun goes down.
