The Hella Marine Rallye 4000 LED is a compact flood light built to do real work on a boat and keep doing it for years. It's a complete sealed lamp, not a bare bulb. Where does it earn its keep? Deck and cockpit work, mostly. If you're wiring a long run up to a hardtop or arch, do yourself a favor and watch for voltage drop, size the wire generously, and give it its own fuse. It's cheap insurance. And before you snug the lamp down, seal the wire entry. A wrap of butyl tape and a length of heat shrink at the grommet keeps salt water out of the connection and adds years to the install. That's the difference between a light that still works in season five and one that gets flaky at season two.

The clear lens and cool white LED put out a lot of light, and on a white deck that can throw some glare back at you. If it bothers your night vision, aim it down a touch or add a simple mask on the top edge. And the matte black powder coat looks sharp, but black finishes show salt haze faster than white ones do. A quick fresh water rinse when you rinse the rest of the boat keeps it looking right.
