Hella Marine MLB50 Amber LED Beacon, 23 Patterns

Hella Marine built the MLB50 for boats that need to be seen. It's a permanent-mount amber LED beacon that throws a bright, attention-getting warning signal, and it runs on either 12 or 24 volt systems without you having to think about it. Run it on constant power alone and it'll simply hold the last pattern it was set to.

Installation is straightforward but worth doing right. It's a permanent, fixed mount, so pick your spot, drill clean, and bed the base properly. We always run a bead of butyl tape or marine sealant under the base on fiberglass and gelcoat, because any through-bolt into a hard top or console roof is a potential leak path if you skip that step. On aluminum T-tops, add an isolating washer to keep dissimilar metals from chewing at each other over a couple of seasons. And put the whole circuit on its own fuse. It's cheap insurance for a light that lives up top in the weather.

A few honest notes. This is a fixed beacon, not a magnetic slap-on, so it's meant to stay put. There's no gasket in the box, so grab a rubber base washer if your mounting surface isn't dead flat. And the 12 to 24 volt auto-sensing means it drops straight into most outboard and inboard systems without a converter, which keeps the install clean. Take a minute to plan the cable run too, so you're not fishing wire through a headliner after the base is already bedded down.

Who's this for? Commercial operators, tow and salvage boats, marina service skiffs, dredge and survey crews, and plenty of private owners who just want a serious caution light for night runs or working the deck at anchor. It's overkill for a small tender, and it isn't a navigation light, so don't try to use it as one.
