Hella H7 Halogen Bulb 55W 12V 1350lm DOT/SAE — Product description

The Hella Marine H7 is a 55-watt, 12-volt halogen replacement bulb that puts out 1350 lumens of warm 3200K white light. It drops straight into any factory H7 socket for low beam, high beam, or fog duty, and it's DOT and SAE compliant so it's street legal. Sold as a single bulb.

The Hella Marine H7 halogen bulb is a straight replacement for the single-filament H7 socket you'll find in the low beams, high beams, and fog lamps of most late-model cars, trucks, and SUVs. It runs 55 watts at 12 volts and throws 1350 lumens of clean white light. If a headlight on one side has gone dim or dark, this is the bulb that gets you legal and safe again without a trip to the dealer.

H7 is one of the most common single-beam bulb standards on the road. The giveaway is the PX26D base, a flat two-tab cap that locks into the socket one way and one way only. There's no guesswork. It drops into any factory H7 housing with no adapters, no splicing, and no wiring changes. Pull the old bulb, seat the new one, clip it down, done. Most jobs take about five minutes a side once you've found the back of the housing.

The light itself runs at a 3200K color temperature, which is a warm white rather than the cold blue-white that's become fashionable. There's a reason we like 3200K for everyday driving. Warm white cuts through rain, fog, and road spray better than cooler light, and it's easier on your eyes over a long night behind the wheel. You get a bright, usable beam that lights up the road instead of scattering off the weather in front of you.

Each bulb pulls about 4.58 amps at 12 volts, which is the standard electrical load a factory H7 circuit is built around. That matters. It means this bulb is a true like-for-like swap that won't overload your wiring or trip a bulb-out warning the way some high-draw or off-spec bulbs can. The T4.625 quartz glass envelope is built to take the sustained heat of a 55-watt filament running for hours at a stretch.

This one is DOT and SAE compliant, so it's street legal in the United States. That's worth saying plainly, because plenty of ultra-bright or heavily tinted bulbs on the market aren't road legal and can cost you at inspection. This is the honest, legal, correct-wattage replacement, not a novelty.

A couple of install notes from doing a lot of these. First, don't touch the glass with bare fingers. The oil from your skin bakes into a hot spot when the bulb heats up and shortens its life. If you do brush it, wipe it down with rubbing alcohol before you power it on, and hold the bulb by the metal base. Second, bulbs age together. If one side has burned out, the other side is usually not far behind and will already look yellower next to a fresh one. This is sold as a single bulb, so order two if you want both headlights matched and even.

One thing to be clear about. Despite the Hella Marine label, this is an automotive H7 bulb built to the DOT/SAE road standard. It's the right call for your car, pickup, van, or SUV headlights and fog lights. It isn't a sealed marine navigation lamp, so don't spec it for running lights or anything that lives in salt spray. For headlight and fog duty on the road, though, it's exactly what you want: a proven standard, the correct wattage, and a clean warm beam.

Hella Marine has been building vehicle lighting for more than a century, and the H7 is a part they've made by the millions. The quality control shows up in the little things. Consistent filament placement so the beam lands where the reflector aims it, tight tolerances on the base so it seats square, and glass that doesn't cloud early. A bulb that's aimed a hair off because the filament sits crooked will light the ditch or blind oncoming drivers instead of lighting your lane. A precise build puts the light where it belongs.

If you're replacing a bulb that failed early, it's worth a quick look at why. A bulb that burned out in months rather than years often points to moisture getting into the housing or a connector that's corroded and running warm. Dry the housing out, check the seal, and clean the connector before you drop the new bulb in. Do that and an H7 like this should give you years of service before it's time for the next one.

Frequently asked questions

What socket or base does this H7 bulb use?

It uses the standard PX26D base, the flat two-tab cap found on every H7 bulb. It keys into the socket one way only and seats with no adapters.

Is this a single bulb or a matched pair?

This is a single bulb. If you want both headlights even and the same color, order two, since bulbs age together and a lone fresh bulb will look brighter than the old one beside it.

What's the color temperature and what does that mean on the road?

It runs at 3200K, a warm white. Warm white cuts through rain, fog, and road spray better than cold blue-white light and is easier on your eyes over a long night of driving.

How bright is it?

1350 lumens from a 55-watt filament at 12 volts. That's the standard output for an H7, so it's a correct-spec replacement rather than an over-driven novelty bulb.

Is this bulb street legal?

Yes. It's DOT and SAE compliant, so it meets US road standards. Plenty of ultra-bright or tinted bulbs aren't legal and can cost you at inspection. This one is.

Can I use it for low beam, high beam, or fog lights?

Any of them. H7 is a single-filament bulb used across all three positions depending on the vehicle, so it works wherever your car calls for an H7.

How much current does it draw?

About 4.58 amps per bulb at 12 volts, which is 55 watts divided by 12 volts. That's the load a factory H7 circuit is built around, so it won't overload your wiring.

Can I touch the glass during installation?

No. Oil from your fingers bakes into a hot spot when the bulb heats up and shortens its life. Hold it by the metal base. If you do touch the glass, wipe it with rubbing alcohol before powering it on.

Will this fit a boat's navigation lights?

No. Despite the Hella Marine label, this is an automotive H7 built to the DOT/SAE road standard for car, truck, and SUV headlights and fog lamps. It isn't a sealed marine running light and shouldn't be used in salt spray.
