HELLA Black Magic 358176401 23-Inch LED Spot Light Bar

The 358176401 is the 23-inch spot version, and it packs 40 LEDs behind a clear lens for a full 11,000 lumens of tightly focused light. Spot beam means the light reaches far, not wide. Let's talk power first, because on a boat it matters. This bar pulls 200 watts. On a 12-volt system that works out to somewhere between 6.7 and 14.6 amps depending on load and temperature, and on a 24-volt system it drops to 3.5 to 7.2 amps. That's real current, not a courtesy light. If you're running the bar more than 20 feet from the panel, size your wire for it. Those 40 LEDs sit on a heat sink that needs a little breathing room to shed heat, so don't bury it hard against structure. On curved fiberglass, lay down a bead of butyl tape and back the mount with a plate. Corners are where a flush mount wants to leak over time, and a few dollars of sealant and a backing plate now saves you chasing a drip later.

The black housing and clear lens look sharp, and they're built to take weather. Hella's whole design philosophy is fit and forget, and these lamps earn it with sealed construction and quality materials. That said, black anodized housings and salt air have always been rivals. A dab of dielectric grease on every piece of the mounting hardware goes a long way, and a quick fresh-water rinse after a salty day keeps the finish looking new. The hardware in the box gets the job done. Plenty of folks still swap in their own stainless bolts and nylon locknuts for a little extra insurance against vibration working things loose at speed.

So who's this bar for? Anybody who needs reach. A spot beam throwing 11,000 lumens puts a lot of light a long way down the water, which is what you want for picking out crab pots, channel markers, or debris while you're still moving. It's about seeing what's coming, not lighting up the cockpit. If close-in flood light for docking or working the deck is what you're after, this isn't that bar, and you'd be better off pairing it with a wider flood pattern. And on a smaller boat, be honest with yourself about brightness. Eleven thousand lumens is a lot, enough to wreck your night vision if you leave it on up close, so wiring in a switch is a smart touch for the times you don't need the full punch.
