The Hella 500 Series driving lamp kit is a straightforward way to add real reach to your forward lighting. You get two 6.4-inch round lamps, each running an H3 55-watt halogen bulb behind a clear lens, set in a black housing that looks at home on a hardtop, a radar arch, a pilothouse roof, or a bull bar. This is the classic round auxiliary driving light, and it's been earning its keep on boats and trucks for years.

Driving beam is the key phrase here. These aren't floods that wash light everywhere. The reflector and clear lens focus the output straight down your line of travel, so you get distance instead of spread. That's exactly what you want running a channel after dark or picking up markers and crab pots well ahead of the bow. If you need close-in flood for docking, that's a different tool. On fiberglass, back the stud with a proper backing plate so the mount doesn't flex and stress the housing over time. If you're going through a deck or a cored surface, over-drill, fill, and re-drill, or at minimum bed the fastener in a good marine sealant so you don't invite water into the core. Standard marine install practice, nothing exotic.

Because this lives outside in salt air, a little prep goes a long way. Hit the H3 sockets and the harness connections with dielectric grease at install. It keeps corrosion out of the contacts and makes the eventual bulb change painless. H3 bulbs are a tool-free twist-and-lock, so swapping one down the road takes a minute once the connection is clean.

The 500 Series is one of Hella's long-running round lamp designs, and the appeal is simplicity. There's no ballast, no driver board, no firmware. It's a bulb, a reflector, a lens, and a relay. When something eventually wears, you fix the one part that failed instead of tossing the whole unit.
