If you've still got the original sealed beams on an older truck, Jeep, or tow rig, you already know the routine. One filament burns out and the whole lamp is done, so you toss the entire unit just to get your low beams back. The Hella 003427291 puts a stop to that. It's a 7 by 6 inch rectangular headlight built as a direct replacement for that old rectangular sealed beam, and it runs a standard 9003/HB2 halogen bulb you can pick up at any parts counter. When the bulb finally dies, you pop it out and drop in a fresh one. The housing stays right where it is.

This is the single-lamp version, so it's the right part when you've got one good side and one that's gone dark, or when you'd rather build up a matched pair one lamp at a time. The housing measures 190 by 132 mm and ships with a dust cover and a bulb already in the box. No second trip to the store before you can wire it in.

The reason to step up from a plain sealed beam isn't only the serviceable bulb. Hella reworked the optics on this one. You get roughly 50 percent more usable light on low beam and about 25 percent more on high, and they pulled that off without throwing extra glare back at oncoming drivers. Plenty of cheap brighter headlights just scatter light in every direction, which lights up the fog, washes out your own view, and blinds everybody coming the other way. Fitment is simple if your vehicle left the factory with a 7 by 6 rectangular sealed beam. That covers a big slice of older pickups, square-body GM trucks, classic Jeeps, and plenty of work trucks and tow vehicles from that era. It's a without-turn-signal design, meaning it's the pure headlight and not a combination unit with the blinker built in. If your original lamp had the turn signal molded into the headlight housing, check that before you order, because you'll want to keep that signal working on its own circuit.

Wiring is about as easy as headlight work gets. The 9003/HB2 bulb uses a three-prong connector, and most factory harnesses on these vehicles plug straight into it. On some older rigs the connector sits a little differently and you'll want an inexpensive pigtail adapter, but the large majority of installs are a true plug-and-play swap. Set the lamp into the bucket, line up the adjusters, snug the retaining ring, and aim it. One tip from years of doing this: if the truck sees washboard roads or heavy vibration, put a lock washer or a dab of threadlocker on the retaining ring screws so nothing works loose and knocks your aim off.

The lens is a standard clear glass optic, which is exactly what you want on a headlight that has to shrug off road grit, weather, and the occasional flung stone. There's no tint, no projector gimmick, no smoked look that eats half your output. It's an honest replacement that trades nothing away on the one job a headlight has, which is throwing clean light out in front of you.
