The Egis Mobile Electric 4710-40 is a 40-amp push-to-reset circuit breaker made for panel mounting at the helm or on a DC distribution panel. It guards a single circuit and resets with the press of a button, so a nuisance trip never leaves you digging through a tackle bag for a spare fuse. If you've ever lost a bilge pump feed or an accessory circuit to a blown fuse offshore, you already know why a resettable breaker earns its spot.

The push-to-reset button does double duty as a tripped-circuit indicator. When the breaker opens, the button pops out, so you can spot the fault at a glance and reset it by pushing it back in once the load is sorted. No tools, no spares, no guessing which circuit dropped. That's the whole point of running a breaker instead of a fuse block.

Forty amps is a meaningful load, so this breaker is sized for the heavier branches on a boat's DC system. Think a windlass feeder, an inverter branch, a bank of high-draw accessories, or a livewell and pump group that all pull hard at once. It protects the wiring on that circuit, tripping before the conductors overheat, and it protects the gear downstream from a dead short.

The 50-volt DC rating covers every common house and cranking system afloat. Run it on a 12-volt, 24-volt, 32-volt, or 42-volt bank and you're well inside the breaker's window. That headroom matters on bigger boats with 24-volt thruster or windlass circuits, where a 12-volt-only part would be underrated for the job.

It's ignition protected, which is the spec that decides where you're allowed to mount it. That means it won't throw a spark that could set off fuel vapor, so you can put it inside an engine room, a battery compartment, or a gas locker and stay inside ABYC rules. On a lot of boats that's exactly where the main DC panel lives, so it's not a small detail.

The build is meant for a wet, vibrating, salt-air environment. You get stainless steel mounting hardware, a knurled nut and a palnut to lock the breaker to the panel, and self-locking screw terminals that won't back out when the hull is pounding through a chop. Screw terminals give you a solid, serviceable connection for ring or spade lugs, and they're easy to torque down properly on install day.

A quick word on sealing. The 4710-40 carries a UL1500 rating with IP40 protection on the front face and IP00 on the rear terminals. In plain terms, the front is protected against small solid objects but the back terminals are open. Egis offers an optional sealing boot for the exposed rear, and that boot is sold separately, so if you're mounting somewhere that sees spray or splash, plan to add one. It doesn't ship in the box.

On the wiring side, a 40-amp circuit wants heavier cable than most accessory runs. As a rule of thumb, 10 AWG is the practical minimum for a 40-amp marine branch, and longer runs often call for 8 AWG to keep voltage drop in check. Always size the conductor to the load and the run length per ABYC, then let this breaker protect it. The operating temperature range runs from 14 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which comfortably covers a hot engine room in summer and a cold bilge in a northern winter.

It's a single-pole breaker, so it protects one circuit. Wire it inline on the positive feed, mount it where you can reach the button, and you've got clean, resettable protection that looks right at home on any well-built panel. Simple, tough, and honest about what it is.
