Egis 4710-15 15A Push-To-Reset Circuit Breaker

The Egis 4710-15 is a 15 amp push-to-reset circuit breaker built to mount right through your switch panel or dash. It's the kind of part that isn't glamorous, but when a circuit faults out on the water, you'll be glad you wired in something you can trust. Egis Mobile Electric has been making electrical protection gear for marine and specialty vehicles for over 25 years, and this breaker carries the same harsh-environment design as the rest of their line.

Here's how it works. Push-to-reset means the button pops out when the breaker trips. You get an immediate visual on which circuit faulted, no guessing, and resetting it is as simple as pushing the button back in. Compare that to a fuse, where you're digging for a spare and a fuse puller in a rolling sea. A breaker like this one just resets. That matters when you're single-handing and something on the panel kicks off at the wrong moment.

The 4710-15 is rated to 50 volts DC, so it covers both 12-volt and 24-volt boats without any worry on the voltage side. It's a single-pole breaker, meaning it protects one circuit. You'd use a 15 amp breaker for things like a bilge blower, cabin lighting runs, a small accessory circuit, a livewell pump, or electronics that draw under 15 amps continuous. Match the breaker rating to the wire gauge and the load, and you've got proper overcurrent protection on that leg.

Connections are screw terminals, which we prefer on a panel breaker. You get a solid, serviceable connection with a ring or spade terminal, and the self-locking screws won't back out with engine vibration the way a cheap terminal can. The mounting hardware is stainless steel with a knurled nut and a palnut, so it stays put and it stays clean. Salt air is hard on hardware, and Egis spec'd this one to live in that environment.

Speaking of environment, this is an ignition-protected breaker. That's not marketing. Ignition protection means the unit is safe to install in a closed compartment where explosive gases can collect, like an engine bay or a compartment near the fuel system or batteries. If you're mounting protection anywhere gasoline vapors or battery hydrogen could pool, you need ignition-protected gear, and this breaker qualifies. The operating temperature range runs from 14 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which covers just about any climate you'd run a boat in, from a cold spring launch to a hot engine compartment in July.

The protection ratings are worth a note. This breaker carries a UL1500 listing along with IP40 and IP00 ratings. There's an optional sealing boot available if you want to seal the front of the button against direct spray. The boot isn't included in the box, so order it separately if your install location sees water. For a lot of panel installs behind a console, the bare breaker is plenty.

Who's this for? Any boater wiring or rewiring a DC panel who wants resettable protection instead of fuses. It's a clean choice on center consoles, cuddies, and sailboats where panel space is tight and you want a tidy row of push-button breakers. It's equally at home in an emergency-vehicle or fleet build, which is where Egis cut its teeth.
