Dometic U1400BLS Ultra Breeze RV Roof Vent Cover

The Dometic U1400BLS is the Ultra Breeze roof vent cover, and it does one job really well. It lets you leave your 14 by 14 vent open when the weather turns. Rain, road spray, a passing squall on the water, the vent stays open and the wet stays out. If you've ever had to scramble to close every hatch the second a cloud rolls in, you already know why these are worth having.

It's built for the standard 14 inch by 14 inch opening, which is far and away the most common vent size on RVs, campers, and travel trailers, and it fits plenty of boat deck hatches too. The cover measures 19-1/2 inches square and sits over your existing vent in a low dome shape. Because it only vents on one side, it does a great job of blocking rain and wind-driven spray while still letting air move through. That one-side design is the tradeoff you make for weather protection. You keep good airflow, just not quite as much as a wide-open vent, so a lot of owners run it alongside a small powered vent fan when they want to really move air through the cabin.

The whole thing is molded from high-density UV-stable polyethylene. That's the same tough plastic used for kayaks and marine deck hardware, and it's chosen here because it shrugs off sun and salt without getting brittle. The black opaque finish also cuts down the light coming through the vent, which is nice if you like a dark cabin for sleeping or you're parked in full sun all day. It won't stay showroom-black forever in hard tropical sun, but the UV-stable material holds its shape and strength season after season, which is what actually matters up on a roof.

Install is straightforward but worth doing right. The cover comes with mounting holes already in place, so you're screwing it down over the vent from the outside. Here's the one tip we always pass along: pre-drill your pilot holes and don't drive the screws home too hard, especially on a curved RV roof or a boat deck. HDPE will crack if you over-torque a screw into it. Bed every screw and the cover edges in a good marine-grade polyurethane sealant, not silicone, and you'll never think about it again. Skip the sealant and the screw holes are the first place a leak shows up after a hard winter.

On boats, this fits a lot of sailboat and cruiser deck hatches in the 14 inch range, though on older boats with a raised teak surround the cover can sit a little proud and want a bead of butyl tape to seat flat. It's a dome profile, so if you've got a low-clearance flybridge or a spot where overhead height matters, measure first. For most RV roofs and standard deck hatches, the height is a non-issue and you can leave the cover on while you're towing down the highway or running offshore.

It earns its keep in the shoulder seasons too. Leaving a vent cracked overnight cuts the condensation that builds up inside a closed cabin, so you wake up to less moisture on the windows and less musty smell in the storage. That's hard to do without a cover once the dew starts falling.

One housekeeping note. Dometic re-labeled this cover under new part number 9600001938. It's the same part, so if your old vent cover or a parts list calls out either number, this is the correct replacement. You're getting a single cover here, ready to mount.
