Dometic FreshJet Manual Air Distribution Box, Non-Ducted, White

If you're running a non-ducted Dometic FreshJet rooftop unit, this is the ceiling assembly that actually controls it. The manual air distribution box, or ADB, mounts to the inside of your coach right below the rooftop air conditioner. It's where the cold air comes out and where you set how cold you want it. No wall thermostat, no app, no menu to scroll through. Just two knobs. One sets the temperature and the other sets the fan speed. Twist and go.

That simplicity is the whole point. A lot of RVers don't want a smart thermostat wired into the wall. They want to reach up, turn a dial, and feel cool air. This is that box. Dometic calls it the mechanical ADB because the controls live right in the ceiling unit, so there's nothing extra to wire in on the interior side. If you've ever swapped a tired old ceiling assembly on a travel trailer or fifth wheel, you already know how much easier a self-contained control head makes the job.

Operation couldn't be more basic. The temperature knob dials in how hard the unit works, and the fan knob steps through the blower speeds, so you can move a lot of air fast or keep things quiet at night. There's no learning curve here. Hand a first-time RV owner this box and they'll have it figured out in about ten seconds. That's a real plus when you rent the rig out, or when the person running the AC isn't the person who installed it.

Airflow comes out front and back, so you get two-way distribution across the cabin instead of one blast in a single direction. The housing is a low-profile two-piece design in polar white, which keeps it from hanging down into your headroom and blends with most RV ceilings. The two-piece build also makes the install friendlier. You're not wrestling one big awkward part over your head on a ladder.

It's made for non-ducted setups, which means the air feeds straight out of the ceiling box rather than running through overhead ductwork. It drops into the standard 14 by 14 inch roof opening that most rooftop units use, so it fits existing cutouts. It pairs with the current Dometic FreshJet series and is backward-compatible with legacy Dometic rooftop air conditioners like the Brisk, Penguin, and Blizzard lines. That makes it a clean upgrade path when an older ceiling assembly finally gives up.

On the electrical side, it runs on 115 volt AC at 60 hertz, standard shore-power territory for a rooftop RV air conditioner. It's rated to operate in ambient temperatures from about 61 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit. This version ships without the LED light. If you want cabin lighting built into the ceiling assembly, Dometic offers a cool-white LED upgrade separately, but this is the no-light configuration. It's also a cool-only manual setup, so if your rig uses a heat-pump unit or you want programmable smart-thermostat control, this isn't the control head for that job.

Install is a common weekend project. The two-piece design lets you set the main housing to the roof unit and then bring up the lower control panel, instead of handling one large assembly overhead. Grab a helper for the roof-side work and take the usual care with the gasket so you keep a good seal against leaks. Go slow on the wiring. Landing the control connections correctly the first time saves you a second trip up the ladder.
