Dometic 9100 Power Patio Awning, 17' x 8', Sandstone with LED — Product description

The Dometic 9100 Power patio awning gives your RV push-button shade in a 17-foot length with an 8-foot extension. Sandstone fade vinyl, a Polar White weathershield, and a built-in LED strip come standard. The hardware and control switch kit are sold separately, so plan for those on a fresh install.

The Dometic 9100 Power patio awning turns the side of your RV into a shaded outdoor room at the push of a button. This is the 17-foot version with an 8-foot extension, which gives you a big footprint of shade over your door, your camp chairs, and the grill. It runs on power, so there's no manual pull strap and no wrestling with a wand in the wind. You hold the switch, the arms extend, and you're done.

The fabric is sandstone fade vinyl, a warm neutral tone that hides road dust and campfire soot better than a bright white ever would. Over the top sits a Polar White vinyl weathershield. That's the cover that wraps the rolled awning when it's retracted, and it's the part that takes the beating during travel, sun, road grime, tree sap, and everything the highway throws at it. The castings, the end caps on each end of the roller, are Polar White too, so the whole assembly reads clean against most modern RV exteriors.

Built into the roller is an LED light strip. Once it's wired up, it throws a soft line of light along the leading edge of the awning, which is exactly where you want it for late dinners and card games after dark. It's a nice touch that saves you from clamping aftermarket lights to the arms.

One thing to be clear about up front. This awning ships as the fabric-and-roller assembly with the LED strip. The hardware and the control switch kit are sold separately. That means the mounting brackets, the arm hardware, and the wall switch that actually drives the motor are a separate purchase. We call that out plainly because nobody likes opening a big box on install day and finding they're missing the switch. If you're replacing an existing Dometic power awning and reusing your brackets and switch, that's often the whole point of buying just the awning. If this is a fresh install, plan on the kit too.

Who's this for? RVers with a 17-foot mounting span looking to replace a tired, faded, or torn awning, or to upgrade a manual unit to power. The 17-by-8 size is common on mid-size travel trailers and fifth wheels. Measure your existing awning rail before you order. Awning sizing goes by the rail length, and 17 feet needs the room. If your rail is a different length, Dometic makes this same 9100 Power awning in other sizes, so match it to your coach.

Installation is a two-person job. You're handling a long, rolled tube up at roof-rail height, and getting the arms squared and the fabric tensioned right takes a second set of hands. Route the motor and LED wiring cleanly, use split loom where the wire crosses the roller ends, and give the connections a shot of dielectric grease so they don't corrode. Wire the switch per the kit instructions and confirm the up and down travel stops before you call it finished.

Once it's up, care is simple. Keep the vinyl clean, hose off sand and grit so it doesn't grind into the fabric as the awning rolls, and let it dry fully before you retract it for a long haul. And retract it in wind. A power awning is convenient, but no fabric awning is built to sit out in a storm, so bring it in when the weather turns and you'll get years out of it.

What you're getting is a genuine Dometic 9100 Power awning, not a generic replacement fabric. The roller, the motor housing, the LED channel, and the weathershield are all engineered to work together, which is what keeps the retract tight and the fabric from flapping at highway speed. For a lot of owners, that's worth the difference. You spend enough weekends parked under this thing that it pays to get the real part and set it up right the first time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Dometic 9100 an electric or manual awning?

It's electric. This is a power awning, so you extend and retract it with a wall switch instead of a manual pull strap. The switch is part of the control switch kit, which is sold separately.

What size is this awning?

The awning is 17 feet long with an 8-foot extension. Awning size is measured by the rail length on your RV, so measure your existing awning rail and match it to 17 feet before ordering.

Does it come with the mounting hardware and switch?

No. The hardware and control switch kit must be purchased separately. This awning ships as the roller-and-fabric assembly with the LED strip. If you're reusing brackets and a switch from an existing Dometic power awning, that's fine. For a fresh install, add the kit.

What color are the fabric and cover?

The fabric is sandstone fade vinyl, a warm neutral tone. The weathershield cover that protects the rolled awning during travel is Polar White, and the end cap castings are Polar White as well.

Does it have lights?

Yes. There's an LED light strip built into the roller. Once it's wired through the control switch kit, it lights the leading edge of the awning for evenings at the campsite.

What is the fabric made of?

It's vinyl. Vinyl awning fabric wipes clean easily and stands up to sun and weather better than most lighter materials, which is why it's a common choice for full-time and seasonal RVers.

Is this a one-person install?

Plan on two people. You're lifting a long rolled tube up to the awning rail and squaring the arms, and a second set of hands makes tensioning the fabric and setting the travel stops much easier.

Will the LED strip and motor need wiring?

Yes. The motor and LED strip get their power and control through the separately purchased switch kit and your RV's 12V system. Route the wiring cleanly, protect it with split loom at the roller ends, and use dielectric grease on the connections to keep corrosion out.
